Forums - Gaming - PS2 discs and digital classics not compatible on PS4 through emulator

The way Sony is handling emulator is pretty lame.

I like the visual and performance upgrades the emulators are doing. I think its unrealistic to expect physical disc support (its a miracle X1 has it). But at the very least they should get out PS1 and PS2 Classics from PSN on PS4. Also, they should have a PSP emulator.

The impressive thing regarding XONE BC is that it's running PowerPC games on an x64 one...

Anyway I think they will but the only reason I'd buy San andreas on ps4 is if it has a boost in performance and trophies.  Otherwise I'm good.

I bought GTA3, GTA VC and GTA SA physically for PS2 in the GTA bundle a couple years back at Wal-mart. Cost me $15.00. This is a dick move if I ever saw one.

Thank god I'm a retro gamer and own all the original consoles/games. If I weren't, the rage... oh the rage.

If it is really true then this doesn't put a good picture on what Sony planned for the digital future. Summe people already think that as consoles are now x86 bc will be given in future consoles but now I think people should be very, very skeptical.

In terms of MS you might actually be able to move your ported 360 games and all your One games to a successor.

Sony? Not sure if it's Playstation or Paystation.

This is what happens when you have a console that is dominating the industry. Xbox One is giving everything away. Free Halo 5 maps, free BC, cheap console, bundles up the ass left and right... and do you know why? Because they HAVE to in order to compete. Sony is sitting on their throne right now, lighting cigars with $1000.00 bills, laughing their asses off.

That's why i always prefer a good competition.

It's a good thing most people play new games instead of old.

That moment you realize that one of the best selling games on 8th gen home consoles is a remaster...

I played gta 5 offline on ps3 but never online.  Stuck a few hundred hours into it online on ps4. You get the point though,  in general most people aren't interested in buying games from 2 or 3 gens ago and don't.

No surprise, they hid basic onlne multiplayer functions behind a paywall, for greed. Did you honestly expect them to grant you an emulator for your physical PS2 games? They know exactly that there are more than enough apologists that will eat anything and happily pay as long as it´s from Sony. And luckily for them, they run to the bank with your money with a very bright smile.

At first I was like woah...high price, then I was like...but Trophies/1080p. I will be buying some, but only if they have full trophy lists, these games are deserving of platinum headed lists, like Resident Evil 4 is deserving of a Platinum headed list, I would actually buy the inevitable Resident Evil 4 PS4 edition if it has a Platinum list.

I mean, weren't PS2 classics just remasters on the ps3?

Nope.

Straight ports.

No higher resolution, no trophy support.

Absolutely no, they made  different emulators for the PS3 to play some PS2 games: (firmware is written when it first appeared on ps3):

ps2_emu.self (1.02++) ps2_gxemu.self (1.50++) ps2_softemu.self (1.90++) 1.90-1.94 (11065), 2.00-2.10 (11830), 3.15 (12840), 3.41-3.65 (13474), 3.66-3.70 (15435), 3.72-4.21 (15529) (Changes: -2.50] [2.52-2.60] [2.70] [2.80] [3.00-3.65] [3.66-3.70] [3.74]) ps2_netemu.self (3.70++)
there are a bunch of them in the PS3 internal HDD, differences based of compatibility of emulators with different games, on different hardwares on the ps3 (cecha has both ps2 cpu and gpu, cechc (pal) only has ps2 gpu, two different emulators for those consoles) "non HW BC consoles" cannot use the first two emulators (my memory of this is vanishing) source: http://www.ps3devwiki.com/ps3/Emulation NOTE that the ps2_netemu.self only works with "ps2 classics format", do you know what is it? It's a ps2 disc ISO image that has been encrypted in a proprietary format, the file will be converted in "ISO.BIN.ENC" NO REWORK IN ANY GAME, they made the emulator, NOT THE GAMES, games are NOT PORTS. Sony really likes that the users never get to know anything (like any console manifacturer out there....), so they can trick them and make a lot of money, evidence is also that I converted Xenosaga episode 3 disc 1 and 2 in that format and even if it is not present on the PS store (so not officially compatibile) it works very well (results vary by game of course) I am not a developer, I haven't ported a ps2 games to ps3, just followed a guide for noobs to play my ps2 game in my ps3 SLIM (CFW) because 60GB ps3 died. THE EMULATORS ARE MADE BY SONY ITSELF.
Of course when there was a save corruption problem in persona 3 fes ps2 classic they called atlus, that made a very fast and probably super easy fix, so people who download
the game after that, won't have the problem (or Sony wrote some more lines of code in the emu for that specific fix.)
I really hope this helps, because the truth must be told to everyone.
Definitely they did a much better job with the PS Vita, that supports psp games and ps1 games, that don't need to be bought again (only if you have them on ps store)
much better console for me.
I you want to play Socom 2, 3 or the other onle online, just dust-off your ps2 and come to play with us using Xlink Kai FREE program for LAN tunnelling (Do you really expect a socom 2 "remaster" will allow you to play multiplayer? just like uncharted 2 and 3 ports right?
(this was written only because I saw some interest in socom 2 in this thread)

Persona 5 on PS3, I won't need next gen!

There's nothing wrong with offering ps2 games on the PS4. Just don't call it backwards compatibility, cause it isn't.

Here's the link to the announcement for the lazy bitches:

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/12/04/fan-favorite-ps2-games-launching-on-ps4-tomorrow/

And fuck that shit! I was hoping it would be at least Bone like and let you download a patched version from a disc. I have 200+ unopened PS2 games that I could have made lots of money off of. Greedy bastards, can't even satisfy my greed.

Anyways, I'll probably buy this crap when its $5 on sale or something. Trophies matter to me. Even if I don't play the games right away, the potential is there.
