One thing I really like about this and other recent patents is they seem to indicate a system that is really going to push some boundaries and innovative. No wonder third parties have expressed interest.

Well that's probably whole point of this platform. :)
If NX is cloud based then it will be a huge change from previous Nintendo platforms, it will basically probably be in a lot of ways the last Nintendo platform, as traditional platform upgrades in a cloud-based service is pointless. But I think overall this is positive for Nintendo ... platform transitions have not been good to them, and they've had to deal with the problems of balancing cheap hardware pricing with outdated hardware, a cloud platform solves a lot of these problems potentially.
A cloud platform is future proof and can be upgraded any time.
elektranine said: Wow the OP must have some serious reading comprehension issues. The patent clearly references a peripheral add on for their consoles. In no way is that cloud gaming. PlayStation Now is a cloud gaming service, Microsoft if they ever get around to it will have a cloud gaming service. But in no way is a physical add-on to a console 'cloud gaming'. |
Maybe you should *read* the patent ... yes there is a "supplemental gaming" attachment you can buy, the part you didn't bother to comprehend is the part where that extra horsepower for users who who have it is shared to other console (NX?) users, which is cloud computing. The patent even outlines a possible reward system for people who allow others to use their extra "computing power".
The patent is not simply for a self enclosed add-on, it's for an add-on which then can provide extra power to other console (NX) users who don't even have the add-on. See below.
You can "share" you supplemental computing power with others and it's tracked, the more you share presumably the more rewards you get.
Cloud computing as in simply streaming games is nothing special. Even the 3DS (in Japan) already does that (Dragon Quest X). This is far more ambitious than that.
What was the filing date? It usually takes 18 months for patents to be published and 3-7 years to be issued, so this could mean a lot or very little. The Hololens patents, for instance, are quite old, despite its recent debut.

I dont read it like a reward like games and stuff.. But just more ekstra power from the cloud.
Like other have said.. Its like 32x (just in a total modern version, that also use extra power from the cloud.. or share it if you dont play)

Nope.
"[NX] is something unique and different. It's something where we have to move away from those platforms in order to make it something that will appeal."
"Also cloud based Game Platfrorms" is probably a tad misleading as the patent shows the primary use of the supplementary power device is through locally connecting the hardware (not wifi)
