Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo downgraded over demand concerns

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=34368

Analyst drops 30% from price estimate in "tougher trading environment"

KBC Securities Japan has lowered Nintendo's stock investment rating from "buy" to "hold", and cut its price target by 30 per cent to JPY 57,500 (EUR 371.2 / USD 575.5) amid fears that demand for the Wii and DS consoles is slowing.

According to analyst Hiroshi Kamide the company believes "that it is reasonable to expect a tougher trading environment," reports Bloomberg.

KBC reduced its outlook for Nintendo's net income for the next financial year by 8 per cent to JPY 391.6 billion (EUR 2.53 billion/ USD 3.92 billion), citing 6 per cent lower DS console shipments and 5 per cent lower Wii software shipments.

Nintendo has raised its guidance three times over the past year, most recently in January, for the financial year ending March 31 - but the strengthening yen will cause the value of overseas sales to drop, which could impact the next financial year.

Is this also due to the supposed impending USA recession? So far there doesn't seem to be any impact on the games business.

My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957

If it happens, at least it'll be just the damn thing to get Nintendo to increase production.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Another analyst? I tend not to believe a word they say because they're usually wrong. The only times they are right is if things appear pretty obvious (Pachter, I'm saying hai to you!) so I don't think listening to analysts is a very good thing.

Dude, this is a financial market analyst, he has nothing to do with Pachter, who's a game industry analyst. Of course he's right, the weak dollar has an impact on the profits of all companies, especially those very dependant on American sales.

I don't believe Wii demand will drop, but from a stockmarket perspective it's quite logical to adjust your figures to the ever dropping mighty dollar.

what??? demand is certainly not dropping in America. Maybe Ninty should ship more consoles here

Hey, chill out, guys. It's not like they're saying "Wii is a fad!" they're just saying that they're lowering their expectations for the future, considering that they raised it three times already, that's not unreasonable. And yeah, they could be wrong, but when it comes to investing money, it's usually smarter to be conservative.

Seppukuties is like LBP Lite, on crack. Play it already!

So every economist or analyst that does not agree with John Lucas is a Sony fanboy? The rheotric on Vgchartz is staggeringly childish at times.
This man has nothing to do with Sony, MS or Nintendo, he's a analyst who generally works with consumer electronics as a consult and aidee and is probably working for a big international company independent of either console manufacturer.
Will people grow up?

I think this may be too technical for some people as they are talking more about economics and how the weak dollar may lead to lower profits then anticipated. They may still sell as much if not more Wii's and DS but if the dollar keeps dropping compared to the yen then profits will be down regardless. Is nothing that Nintendo is doing but more of the way the market is going currently. Maybe I should have posted this under sales or have some forum about economics and how it affects gaming so people don't start calling these people fanboys just because they are looking after peoples investments in these companies like Nintendo.
