The incentive to buy both doesn't matter as much. It's the insentive to buy either that is important to Nintendo. You will see examples in the software to incentivize people owning both. If you thought the Amiibo paywall was bad, this will be worse, and it will be for almost everything, especially when it comes to first party titles.
NX will either be 249$ or 299$ if Nintendo goes any higher than that it will fall flat on its face
let's just hope they don't add another gimmick that will increase the price and be as poorly used as the gamepad.
If the NX is indeed a system that combines home console and handhelds it would be amazing enough.
It may happen. In fact, the right scenario would be a $249 release. I think with that price they can go for a system with similar hardware of the PS4 without having losses. If they want to put an interesting gimmick and still make it powerful, it should be $299
Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

If it's going to be worse that amiibo, that doesn't sound like a very good future with Ninten...? How is this a good thing?

I don't see it releasing at $299.99 unless it's weaker than Xbox One, and if it is then RIP NX.

It's hard to imagine that this will be worse. Buying first party software should enable the use on both devices, but certain features or extras could only be available on one of the devices. Feeling forced to buy a device you never wanted comes at a high price, but unlike amiibos which keep growing in numbers, it would be a one-time investment. But it has to be said that the strategy of having software shared between devices is meant to make the hardware purchase less of an obstacle. Making notable features exclusive to one device for no good reason would stand in conflict with the purpose of the new strategy, so it isn't likely that we'll see a "worse than amiibo" future. |
I figured owning both would come to certain games just particularly being a better fit to a console or a handheld, such as Smash Bros on the console, and Pokemon on handheld.

It's a good thing because people like buying amiibo. It's good for people who like amiibo and bad for those who don't. The shared software will be the same. It will have content walled off to people who don't own the other. Good for people who own both - bad for people who own one. It's a great thing for Nintendo because there's no negative impact on their end, just like with Amiibo.

And unlike Amiibo, you only need one, albeit large, additional purchase to have all the exclusive content for every game you will ever own. With Amiibo, you have to literally own every single Amiibo to acheive the same fear.
When I said "worse than Amiibo," I only meant that the content paywall is exponentially larger.
