Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo censors out the 'Bust slider' from your character creator in Xenoblade X

Btw, Tachikoma is now confirmed to be a male objectifier of women.

I don't see sexual objectification as a bad thing, "oh man shes hot!" people would scream objectification!! how dare you!! you're reducing her to nothing more than a sex object!!.

It's silly, it really is.

If you think someones hot they're hot, simple as.

I understand man. Black people always have white people with no soul ruin their culture with stereotypical(and ugly) features that don't even represent what black people actually look like.

Be as confident as you want. Hopefully Nintendo adds more customization for blacks/other minorities before the game releases. If they don't, then it'd be cool if they added it as a free update.

I guess that Nintendo might not add extra customization. It'll really disappoint me if they don't, but at least they're putting so much effort into the game. They probably didn't focus much on it because Japan is mainly white-skinned people, so they overlooked it. Nothing wrong if you do, 'cause you actually got a reason

I'm not going to let it ruin the game for me. This is an issue in too many games to do so. Animal Crossing New Leaf, Pokemon XY, Fire Emblem Awakening and Fire Emblem Fates, Monster Hunter 4U, etc. And obviously my expectations game by game are varied. I don't espect afro nose/lip options for Pokemon because of the style and already limited nature of the customization for everybody of all races, sexes, ages, and body types. But I at least wanted some hair options. Again, even Miis have better creation options. Miis. Nothing crazy. Just one hairstyle that could maybe pass for dreads. Or braids. Who knows? Who cares. It works and it doesn't look stupid. All I need. The lips are there. The noses are there. It's like I'm playing X and Y and there are literally other trainers in the game who look blacker than my trainer. Elenora exists. Marshall exists. They know how to make these kinds of characters and they've already done it for two generations, yet they fuck up in the character creation. Bull.

But I won't let it ruin the game for me. It just sucks that in a game with the option to create your own character, I literally can't make a character who even vaguely resembles me.

Let's be fair. All of the characters sucked in terms of appearance. Only 3 looks didn't give much. Still, they got clothing right. I trust Nintendo to advance in terms of diversity in their future games.

Censoring Lin, sucks but eh, not the end of the world.
Removing breast size slider on the other hand is just a.. what the fuck?, is the size of a womans breasts in a game (and peoples ability to try and make their character match their own, real world proportions) now a bad thing? it's not like the smallest or biggest ends of the slider were outrageously sized or anything.

Like I said before, if XCX was really concerned about matching a player's real world proportions, there wouldn't only be sliders for height and bust. Unless we are to assume that players of these games are all of the same singular lean, athletic, swimsuit-model's body type, where literally the only difference of physique between us came from how tall we were and how chesty our women are, there's no reason to believe that most people got anything out of that slider when it come to being represented.

If you're a girl with a D cup bust who weighs 180 lbs, I don't understand how having your avatar match your bust size will make you feel any more connected when proportionatly you'd still look completely different. If you're a 5ft A cup with very wide hips, having your avatar be just as short has the body type of a petite young teen isn't going to feel more like you just because you're both relatably flat chested. It's like having a bicep size slider for the male avatar and literally nothing else. In isolation, it's incredebly stupid.

That's what this breast slider is, only it's very clearly done just for oggling. Is that bad? Probably not. Does it need to be in the game in lue of the extremely limited creation options? Definitely not. They took out an unessecary feature that makes the game look creepy with in and barely effects the game at all with out it. It would have obviously been better to add many more sliders addressing these limitaions than to subtract the one, but that was never going to happen, was it?

he has a problem with this due to the ramifications that can come from accepting things like this, because depending on who it affects, it can be something they care about for one reason or another. Which are my initial thoughts as well.

Precisely.  You're worried about who is affected by the removal of this feature yet have no worry about who is affected by the inclusion of the feature.

A. How many potential buyers even know this feature exists?
B. How many potential buyers would feel objectified by it?

Now tell me which side is going to be in greater volume?  I gurantee you that A is less than B.

But again, if the chest configuration feature was seriously that high on someone's reason to purchase list, we have social problems that not only dwarf the problem of self-censorship but actually warrant it.

You say this things as if they actually matter. Xenoblade Chronicles X has those things in it. Nintendo of America has chosen to edit the actual product for no law or obligation to the region.

The argument that censorship is fine because I find the feature to be creepy or for sub-humans is so tired and full of fallacy.

Yup, thiiiiiiiiiis is stupiid! I can understand changing that one girl character because she's 13, but taking out the bust slider? Really?

Sure, it was likely going to be used by guys to make a girl with the largest bust size possible, but what about actual girls who want the avatar to match themselves as closely as possible? Girls do have small or big breasts. There's not all that much lewd about the bust slider... Well, unless you want it to be.

I don't. Not at all. They literally have one example of what I'd consider to be acceptable diversity in customization, and that was Miis released like 10 years ago. That's embarassing when it is literally such an easy thing to fix. It doesn't take much. It just takes a real effort. Skin tones are not a real effort, and even that is an issue with half of their games. You know how many skin tones are in Fates? That's a joke question. The answer's one, which is fucking offensive in a game where other characters can look like this:

I disagree, greatly.

The smallest and largest ends of the slider are all "normal sizes" nothing outlandish, so how is "only for oggling"? why does it have to be directly tied to a sexuality? what if you're a 10 year old kid playing it and you want to at least be a little like your real world self, i.e. short and flat chested?

Removing the slider doesnt just stop people from making them bigger, it stops people from making them smaller, implying that breast size sliders that don't go to extremes is "just for oggling" is taking conservative mummying to the extreme.

Are you implying then, that the only reason I would rather the US version didn't remove the slider is because I want to oggle a game characters normal sized bust?

That's kind of self-centered, isn't it?  You care because you can't make the game represent you but an A-cup or D-cup female doesn't matter?  It's just boobs, it's just hair, it's just color.

It's not self-centered at all. The bust slider isn't an issue because it's inclusion isn't their to represent players with different body types. If it was, there would be sliders for all body types. Where's the hip slider? Where's the belly slider? Where's the penis slider? It's not there to represent different bust sizes. If a women has D-cup breasts because she weighs 230 lbs, are you seriously trying to argue that she'll feel even a little bit represented just because there is a bust slider? Get out of here.

With the black issue, there is a complexity to creating that kind of character that is being completely glossed over. This game, like many others, thinks that being black is just a skin color. That all you need to do is add braids an a brown skin tone to be adequate. XCX attempts to be inclusive to blacks and fails offensively. It's not trying to include women with large breasts at all, because it deliberately ignores 90% of the factors that contribute to those large breasts, and the body types around it that are just as important. Having only a bust slider and a height slider for body modifications is as stupid as only having a nose and ear size slider for face modifications.

Ah, I see.  Only the options that represent you are meaningful.

I don't even know man. For me I just use whatever I find and go with it.

I can only be a Chinese Jew that's tan? Sure, I don't mind.

I'm white, but in a game there's only black people? Ok, I'm cool with it.

It can be anything for me and I really won't see the need to be dissatisfied with it. Of course, people can disagree.

Usually, I'm not picky with my games. I've always had more modest-like PC's and gaming whatnot over the years, so I really don't feel the need to complain about a game. I just like it or not.

Stuff like this just reinforces the belief that nintendo's products are tailored toward kids instead of adults.

I can imagine your situation.

You: "Ladies, hear my story about a Nintendo game that I didn't buy because they removed the bust slider."
Ladies: "You are a very mature man."

You couldn't be more wrong. That's the difference between being wise and saying things best left unsaid. Also, I'm quite sure that there's a good portion of women that wish there was "skill level in bed" slider for adjusting their husbands/boyfriends level of skill but they sure as hell won't say it. It's silly that nintendo thinks people in america aren't mature enough to be able to handle a bust slider in a game. There's already been several articles about different instances where nintendo has censored their games recently. Perhaps they're trying to conform more towards to that family friendly image.
