Forums - Nintendo - Why Super Mario 3D World is much, much, much better than Super Mario Galaxy

What would you rather beat?

Super Mario 3D World 78 40.63%

Super Mario Galaxy 86 44.79%

Ka-pi96 18 9.38%

Scoreboard 10 5.21%

Total:192

Agreed. 3DW is superior to Galaxy. Galaxy is also my least favorite of the 3D Mario games.

Because it is not? For me it's the exact opposite of what you said. Galaxy is bigger, smarter and better... except the graphics, of course... but it's another generation.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Mario 64 and Sunshine are the best marios to my mind, but 3d world seems like the next step of the linear gameplay found in galaxy. The plot and sub-plot in galaxy is great, and so is the Mario spaceship hub in galaxy 2.

Galaxy just reminds me that I like 64 better.

LOL trolling at its finest

Galaxy still was more innovative and exciting to play due to the inmense ambition of the game and how successfull was for the most part.

But all the points exposed here make sense. Even if I think Super Mario Galaxy 2 is better than 3D World, the later feels more fun to play and that´s pretty damn important specially in a Mario game.

Sorry but there is no game out there that is as good or better than Galaxy (1 or 2 are equally good)...

...perhaps Xenoblade, but that is a whole other story.

You should have that ability. Or rather, do you have any? Mea culpa, that I asked..

I must be posting only when I'm confident, that I will do it in a good way... I failed.  So, I'm apologizing, for annoying your intellectual power.

I can only answer comprehensible questions. This is taunting/abrupt.

Excuse me, but I didn't understand your question, could you clarify it, please? This is discreet/ polite and  hence welcome.

I wouldn't like to think that you don't have manners.

Anyway, have the last word and spit me your venom, It has little or no effect on me.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               However, it's preferable for both of us to leave it now, before the outcome be painfull for one from us, or maybe both!                                                                 I will not continue this irrational thing!

I'm wondering why I answered since I know you very well, I should have ignored the provocative/insultive insinuation.

Feel  nice, it behooves me to retreat!

I am usually good at deciphering broken English, but your question was something else. You started it with "You like both dimensions of super mario games, (...)" which is okay, but then the rest didn't make any sense. I'll show you by completing the question with what you have announced to be the correct interpretation.

"You like both 2D Mario and 3D Mario, but do you prefer 2D Mario like me or do you dislike 3D Mario?"

The part before the comma contradicts the part after it. I can look past poor grammar, but the above is nothing short of incomprehensible. And while you consider my initial answer taunting, it is merely descriptive with the implication that you should reframe the question, because once I understand what you are asking, I can actually give you an answer. Now if I had used words like "excuse me" and "please", that would have been more like actual taunting because that's not how I usually talk. It could be interpreted as me talking down to you.

There's nothing irrational about trying to clear up a misunderstanding.

If that was your answer from the beginning... Things would be great!    I took your first answer as mockery, following other allusive jabs hence being overly defensive.

So you're telling me that I misunderstood you? If yes, I feel very bad about that.

Help me, don't crucify me...:P

You like both 2D Mario and 3D Mario, but do you prefer 2D Mario like me or do you dislike 3D Mario?"

Yeah, but it's more what slarvax said:I believe he meant to ask if you dislike 3D mario, or prefer 2D over 3D but still like it.

The irrational thing, is our firefight!

So, could you anwser me! It seems that you prefer 2D mario but this happens while you're disliking 3D mario? Or you like both but you like 2D mario more than 3D mario, as me?

I haven't played 3D World yet, I'll be getting it for Christmas but, I own Galaxy and as good as it is, I was always wishing I was playing it with a standard controller. I can't tell you how many times I died on that hamster ball, or the surfing levels because of crappy motion controls.

So, even though I haven't played 3D world, I am going to say that it's the better game because, well, standard controls lol

That's ..... actually hard to choose.

Both games are amazing. SMG had more wow moments, but i would say SM3DW was indeed more fun overall (played the second run with my sister in law). If you don't care about losing lifes (and why for gods sake would you?), the multiplayers is incredibly fun.

Rol... Let's be honest, you  consider it to be better than super Mario galaxy, because actually is super Mario bros in 3D and you're a 2D Mario fan and you're liking 2D Mario more than 3D Mario... Just like me! :P

I am a 2D Mario fan. 2D Mario , OLD sprite based 2D Mario, is far superior to any other Mario that has come out, even though there are GREAT 3D Mario games.

However, I prefer Galaxy to 3D World. Neither of them is the 3D Mario type of game that I have dreamed of ever since Mario 64 came out, which would be an epic, sprawling 3D represenation of the Mushroom Kingdom/World, basically a 3D SMB3, visiting all those lands, plus maybe Dinosaur Island, maybe even Subcon as a neat hidden "Special World". You have to use pipes to get around, the world is big enough. Doesn't even have to be "open world", could just be levels, but HUGE levels that you can really run around and explore in. All I know, is that I've always wanted, even as a kid playing SMB3 when it was new, to be able to feel like I'm really running around the kind of elaborate, crazy Mushroom Kingdom lands that SMB3 shows us, and we have YET to ever truly get that. People praise Mario 64, but while it was great, all it was was jumping into small levels inside magic paintings. That's ALL we've ever gotten, is small 3D levels. No actual Mushroom Kingdom, no huge levels.

But when it comes to 3D Mario, I prefer Galaxy 1 over 3D World. 3D World is a great game, and a "real 3D Mario" (whatever that means). I especially liked the Mario 2 aspects, like an emphasis on throwing stuff and those 4 playable characters. I just wish they had taken it further, and had MORE enemies from SMB2 (like, the all of em, including the bosses), and surprised everyone by having Wart be in the game. THAT would have been something. Wart deserves a comeback. For real. But in general, I prefer most things about Mario Galaxy. I don't prefer the gravity/planetoid stuff, but it WAS neat for it's time. And the graphic look is much better to me, more organic looking, as opposed to 3D World where the characters look like plastic toys.

I did not, personally, however, like Mario Galaxy 2 much at all. It basically reminded me of Lost Levels, which isn't a good thing. It was an unnecissary cash-in Sequel, Yoshi was somewhat a pointless inclusion when he didn't even totally work right. And after playing the remade Mario 64 level in those graphics, all it did was make me wish they had just make a Wii remake of Super Mario 64 in it's entirety instead. That would have been a much better game. But Galaxy was a good stand-alone title, and never needed a direct sequel. And it annoys the hell out of me, that so many gamers clamor for or even outright EXPECT a "Galaxy 3". We do NOT need more "Mario in Space".

I don't know that I'll ever get my dream 3D Mario concept, though I really wish Nintendo would just go that route finally. But I would at least like to see them take a fresh direction that is NOT just another 64, or Sunshine (bleh), or Galaxy.
