Forums - Gaming - (This is interesting) DF: Faster hard drives boost Xbox One Fallout 4 performance

That create a new question...

Why the Xbone HDD is slower than PS4 HDD? Both have the same speeds and use the same interface (SATAII)... maybe OS? Drivers? What is the difference?

Why does it matter both consoles arent performing how they should to for this last gen looking game

I don't see other open world games suffering from this on X1, thereforce I would assume Fallout 4 is the issue. However, its evident using an external drive does improve the load time of numerous games.

I assume DF will test it further when patches are released. They did numerous updates on Witcher 3 patches.

The issue looks like the HDD not being faster enough to stream the asset to the memory in time to the GPU render the fps... so if the HDD is faster the issue disappeared.

While both have fps drops due others things... the freeze waiting the HDD stream only happens on Xbone.

That is why I'm make the question why the Xbone's HDD is slower? If it was a bug then the change of HDD won't fix it.

Elite X1 it is then.

Does the Elite come with a faster hard drive or just a bigger hard drive?

Its both faster and bigger. It has a hybrid drive, which apparently gets speed at par with SSD yet still uses physical parts of a standard HDD. But that model costs $500.

Frankly, my 1TB external drive only cost $50. That's sufficent for space and helps performance as the video shows.

Why that is what the techinical article is talking? So it is matter for the thread I guess... if not then why are you reading it?

BTW I always said here dozen of times Bethesda is a poor developer... they are creative and just that... they are terrible to make games and programmer it... at the time people thought I was saying that because the PS3 version of Skyrim when in fact all versions (even the PC) where below shit.

PC games from Bethesda only get playable after the community fix all the shit with mods.

Numerous games benefit from using an external HDD, it can reduce load times. However, they generally don't run like crap because you're using the internal drive. So this looks like an issue of optimization. The game needs patching, which isn't unusual for a Bethesda game at launch, right?

A good gaming PC generally cost more than $350. Also, some PC ports are pretty much broken early on. Batman is still broken.

Sure but you don't have to pay for online so you can cut the cost over five years and use that for the PC.  All the software is cheaper as well so you will save money that way as well. Sure some PC ports are broken but so are some console ports. I've owned a PS4 and X1 before so I know some games were broken early on. BF4 was unplayable when it was released. Halo MCC? Yea we all know the mess that was. There was massive issues with almost all Bethesada games on the PS3. People who use consoles like to pretend there games are never broken but it's just not true and it's a silly argument. I've owned all the consoles and just recently went back to PC gaming after being gone for like 10 years. I've experienced the ups and down from all three they all have their pros and cons. At the end of the day though I'm a graphics whore and when I saw my friend run Dying light and Dragon Age Inquistion maxed at 1440p I was amazed and instantly sold everything to build a gaming PC.

I could argue every point. But I'd rather just point out 8th gen consoles have games I want to play that won't be coming to the PC anytime soon if ever. And I really enjoy or look forward to those games.

With that said, I see more value in owning both a PS4 and X1 then a gaming PC. The games I want on PC generally come to those consoles and play fine.

But hey, this is a matter of personal taste. Graphics are secondary to the games I actually want to play.

I've been using an SSD with my PS3 for awhile now. It helps with loading times. It does that for all games. I don't know why they mentioned fallout 4 and not all games.

Because only in Fallout 4 there are extreme loading issues?

If this wasn't the only game having these issues, I would agree that there would be something wrong but it is the only game where that happens so it's most likely a fuck-up at Bethesda's side.

The difference is the game itself.

I really need to fork over the money and get a better HD but... I wish they had allowed for us to play games straight off discs. I would have gladly paid more money for more horse power if it meant having the ability to do that.

There's plenty of other games that have lengthy load times that could benefit from using an ssd. A better selling pitch would be that all games benefit from using it instead of a regular hdd but in the same sense, an SSD will not fix a broken game.
