Forums - Nintendo - Unlike the Wii, do you think Nintendo was successful in making the Wii U more of a

I generally dislike terms as 'core gamer' as people all interpret it differently. But the real question to me is has Nintendo delivered high quality games that Nintendo fans want, more so than during Wii.To that I say yes they have, at least currently.

With the possible exception of Super Mario 3D World (which is still 1 of the best games released this gen. It'sjust that Galaxy 1 and 2 are contenders for greatest game of all time) I think all their franchises improved upon the previous entries. Mario Kart, Smash, Donkey Kong, New Super Mario Bros, and they finally made a good Yoshi game again. Also they brought some new ideas with Splatoon and Mario Maker and saved Bayonetta 2.

Of course you can only really compare at the end of the generation. For all we know Xenoblade is ****, Zelda a disappointment, Star Fox downright terrible and Pokken mediocre. I don't expect this to happen, but it would definitely change my opinion if it did.

I think Nintendo utterly failed at everything they wanted to do with the Wii U, including satisfying current Wii U owners. Mostly because the Gamepad was a stupid idea.

I don't know if I'm casual or core, but as a Nintendo fan no, not pleased and the library clearly didn't care for me or my tastes.

Edit: oh, the Wii was successful enough to me. Metroid Prime Trilogy, Super Mario Galaxy, TLOZ: Twilight Princess, Resident Evil 4, TLOZ: Skyward Sword, Okami, Metroid: Other M. All of them fun experiences that have not had on Wii U.

The Wii U is what happens when you make a Gamecube 2 and not the true sequel to Wii.  Also the  wii had better games than the Wii U. That's why it sold better. *

*Yes I know sales= quallity is not completely true however sales are the BEST way to measure a game's quality.

It has not really actually had a lot of games that Nintendo gamers even want.

Really? I thought the the one thing Nintendo did succeed at this generation was catering to the core Nintendo fan. If I'm wrong in that then Nintendo fucked up in every way possible. But reading most Nintendo fans on this forum it looks like they are quite satisfied with the games Nintendo has given them, albeit they are feeling the continued absence of a new Zelda and Metriod.

I tyhink Nintendo has successfully appealed to its core fanbase. The only problem with that is the core Nintendo fanbase is a lot smaller than people thought it might be after the Wii phenomenon.

I've put many more hours into my Wii U than my Wii. Not sure if that answers the question though.

So.Much.This.

The Wii's early game lineup absoultely blows the Wii U's out of the water. You could argue that there were better games made for the Wii within it's first 12 months than there have been for the Wii U so far.

Largely because the Wii's first year was considerably fattened by games cherry picked from the GameCube like Super Paper Mario, Fire Emblem, and Twlight Princess. Remove those and it's not so far above the Wii U, also factoring in the Wii is basically just a recycled GameCube chip so they didn't have to adjust to a new generation of hardware either.

It seems to me like most of the people in the thread didn't actually give the wii a fair chance. Wii has way more core games than Wii U, it's not even in the same ballpark. If you want to argue about the top 5 or 10 games you can argue for the Wii U if you want, but the Wii U starts to look pretty bad once you get past the top tier.
