I think this system actually gives worth to the DLC since it has carried over for so many games. How many other games can do that?

This is the main reason why I have stopped buying these games years ago (before they stopped making them). For their absurd asking price (a bunch of plastic electronics should not add $40+ to the price) they include a small amount of actual music versus what they try to sell you. And it's not as if it requires a lot of work to add this music in. That's the main reason why I might eventually buy the new Guitar Hero. It has even less songs IIRC, but you get access to Guitar Hero TV or some shit where you can play hundreds of other songs kind of like a GH version of Spotify. |
Fromwhat I've read, Guitar Hero Live is more like joining an MTV broadcast than Spotify. You don't pick the song.
If you want unlimited access to the catalogue I think it's a monthly subscription.

No it's a freemium model. You play the songs and playlist the way it is given to you for free. However if you want to replay any of the songs you have to use tokens. The tokens are won in the game but you can also buy them since you won't be winning many at a time. Also no internet connection and you can't play that mode at all.

My thoughts exactly. Not sure if people have always been like this (trying to find someting to be offended by) or if its a thing of our society. Either way it's sad and annoying. It reminds me of a post I once saw on 9gag. It was something along the lines of: "are you supposed to be a man or a woman? I need to know what I'm offended by". |
I agree with both of you. This is also a collection of songs/DLC that has been released across Rock Band 1, 2, 3, Blitz, and Rock Band 4 over the years. I applaud them for making sure DLC you purchased 7 years ago is still relevant and usable on the new game. Also, just like Kitler53 stated, Harmonix has to program the tracks and this takes time. The songs you purchas eon iTunes do not have this type of interactive element. You can just listen to them, that's it.
What's sad is that you know there is going to be at least one guy who will buy every single track smh.

The "plastic electronics" are priced as controllers. Which they are. That complaint legitimately makes no sense. Yeah, it's kind of inconvenient, but buying controllers is always a kind of spendy affair. But, you know, the folks at Harmonix knew this and made old Rock Band gear compatible with Rock Band 4. SO EVIL. And yes, Guitar Hero Live has less songs because it doesn't have basically a decade of DLC available for it. Let's celebrate the fact that you get to spend all over again with the new Guitar Hero, whereas those who invested in Rock Band instruments and DLC previously can get away with just buying the base game to enable it all on their new system. Oooohhhh, so evil, so greedy, so horrible. I just hate these consumer friendly options. As an addition to this post, anybody who says "but I don't think 65 songs is enough" - they are trying to sell the game for $60. Do you understand the cost of music? How much dealing they likely had to do to pull off getting each song added to the base game, effectively selling each song for far below the $2 standard of a single DLC song? |
To add to this. To get a song on Futurama. In the commentary, they said, they spent $25,000 to use a song in a episode once. That money could be used elsewere to pay actors or writers. It's why they avoid singing happy birthday, in shows. House MD, doesn't even have its main theme song used around the world. Tear Drop is removed from 20 different countries. It is a big deal. When it comes to music licencing prices and rules BS. If it was so easy and cheap music. Daria's DVD set would have all the music. It doesn't because they don't have the audiance like GTA, buying the show.

Indeed, and it's actually cheaper for a game like GTA to license music because it's such a mutually beneficial deal.
