Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox Cloud Power: Unlimited CPU - Future of Games Claim

That's a entirely different situation. Blockbuster was price gauging people on movie rentals and when much cheaper & better alternatives (netflix and redbox) came around, it ruined blockbuster.

"Cloud" tech would work well with online gaming as it is now and will be in the future but not with single player games. If devs kept using the tech, eventually entire games will be streamed from the cloud and that's online only/ more restrictive DRM with single player games. It's not progression when you take two steps back for every one step forward.

That's part of the advantage for the producers - less piracy.  That’s all Steam really is – an  anti piracy system.  (Might change when and if SteamOS comes out.)

But why in the world are you trying to say the entire game is going to be streamed from the cloud?  Maybe someday, but that’s not needed now, and not many have a good enough internet connection.

What Microsoft, Activision and Nvidia has been a hybrid system where some of the processing is done on the server, then the individual and final rendering is done locally.  It’s much easier to upgrade servers, but there is no reason not to use your local system for processing - especially when that frees you from strict latency issues.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
