Forums - Gaming - Will MS drop the price of the X1 next week?

With the PS4 price cut in full effect and seemingly blitzing the the X1 in sales, will MS react?

I believe theres a high chance we will see a X1 price cut sooner rather than later.

The price cut caught MS off guard. Yes they were expecting a price cut but with PS4 bundles originally priced at $400/$450 with a November releae date, I believe they expected Sony to have a price cut going into BF. It was fairly well played by Sony to be honest. MS knew that they would drop they price at some point and Sony knew that MS knew and hid their price cut intentions by pricing bundles $400/$450 with November release date. A day before NDC bundle released, they announce a price cut. It wasn't even like the PS4 was under pressure which is why I believe it was planned from the begining to catch MS off guard.

MS will have a statergy ready for when they do drop but with the price cut coming before Halo release (a period where they want to capitalise on), it's kind of put them in a stickt situation. Do they cut price or put all their faith in Halo to prevail.

There are some people who are putting to much weight on what Phil said about profit before beating PS4, but profit comes from selling units (even selling units at a lost can get you profit from software and Xbox Gold sales). Every PS4 sale is a X1 sale lost. Phil might keep playing the "we don't care about PS4" card, but it's not genuine. It's competition and the compatition is taking your sales. It's only natural to want to beat your competition and it's vital to maximising you profit.

My guess, This Monday MS announce Halo bundle $400, all other bundles $300/$330.

I don't think they will lower the price yet but I hope it will come within the next two weeks. And not because of PS4, but to maintain growth and get as many consoles as possible in the hands of gamers. This will be a much shorter generation so it gets even more important with growth YOY.

It will definitely be before the end of the month. Interesting how they announced the holiday price cut last year on October 27th, the same day Halo 5 comes out this year.

I just wish this thread was still open:http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=208277&page=1

I find it hard to believe MS wasn't expecting the pricecut before Halo release tbh. So they most likely have something planned in advance, we'll see.

Next week would be stupid as hell. Any price cut will be for the holidays exclusively, Sony can get away with it because they haven't had a price cut yet, and they've only dropped by 50$.

Meanwhile, Xb1 has already had two price cuts, and they don't have that much wiggle room to beginning with.

It doesn't make sense, when the chance of beating PS4 anymore is forfeit. At least if they wait till holidays they have a shot at taking Nov and Dec, price cutting to try and win Oct is not only short sighted probably wouldn't help them win anyway.

You're right, reacting so soon can be considered a bit rash.

It comes down if MS has enough confidence in Halo because right now they do not have the price advantage that still saw them lose month on month.

If MS lower the price they'll have to commit to that price for good. They can't risk trying the same trick they tried last year because the backlash would have a negative effect on sales going forward. Bundles are also a problem because they have very little to bundle, something they should have thought about when they delayed all of their games until the last four months of the year and made sure they focused all their fanbase on the last four months of the year too. Sony have a full catalogue of games they can call upon to add value to bundles. So ... what the hell do they do? They keep the price as it is, accept their loss of position and take the profits. If they don't accept the profits and DO accept losses in order to win, they'll just speed up the process of transitioning over to the PC.

The PS5 Exists.

PS4 price cut on Oct 9 was visible from a mile away. I'd be shocked if XBOX execs didn't expect it.

If Microsoft is going to do a price cut, they'll drop $50 right before Halo releases. The $500 bundle releases on the 20th so Microsoft will have a few days selling that at full price. Probably will have the price cut go into effect on the 26th.

Personally though it's pretty hard to tell if Microsoft is focused on profit or market share this year. The bundles are a worse value than last holiday so that either means they're doing another price drop or they can't afford another holiday with crazy deals.

Microsoft's xbox one will be $300 just like I predicted by the end of the year. Each year Microsoft will drop the price of the xbox one by 50 dollars. Quote me on this.
