Bluray is the next DVD. It's not as profitable though, as like other people have already stated, everyone is streaming nowdays.

I completely forgot about HD DVD. Microsoft brought it out as the competitor to Bluray. Bluray easily won because it was announced along with the PS3 and PS3 using Bluray technology meant you were buying a console and a Bluray player.

Like DVD with the PS2 before that. Remember when the ps2 was a "cheap" dvd player and you could get it with a "tv like" remote control ?

DVD was successful before the PS2 though. VHS was still a thing at the time, but DVD was already a success. If anything, that helped PS2 sales.

I remember I made a real marketing campaign to my mom to get us a ps2 because she already wanted to buy a DVD player, and the cheapest at the time here in Brazil was like 600 BRL, with 400 BRL more she would already get us a ps2. It worked, at least in my home it reallu helped.
Not really.
Blu-rays are actually relevant in the market.
I never knew a single person who ever used laserdiscs in their lives.
"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Well the only laser disk i ever saw were adult videos, and really noone buy these physical since 2002.

I never saw laserdisc outside of specialty-stores, Blu-Ray is everywhere
Nope, BlueRay is way more popular than Laser Disc ever was. And yes if we talk about about formats we have to talk about everything and thats why blueray will keep being the dominand format for gaming dueto games taking so much space. The next consoles probably will support new updated bluerays who will store 100-300gb for AAA games.
And a lot if people and bussineses still want to have physical movies.

Sorry but as streaming is no different from normal cable channels in that they only show it for a short time then remove it, it will never replace discs as there will always be people who want to watch the content when they want so will need to buy it.
