Forums - Sony - Can Anyone Else See What Phil Spencer Is Trying To Do?

BS, MS kicked their own ass. Sony "talked about MS" without ever saying MS. The phrase "unlike our competitors" is fair game. Saying Sony attacked MS during E3 is just silly rhetoric.

Oh, so if he said "Our main competitor is going to have a price drop this holiday" it would be fine...?

No. The issue is that he is speaking for Sony (a competitor), speculating on what their actions will be with intent to diminsh their own annoucement. He should have said, we're ready for whenever in the holidays or better yet nothing out. Plus he's creating confusion and making reporters focus on the PS4's price. And he's counting on his supporters benefit of the doubt, and the focus on Sony allowing him to get away with it.

In contrast, Sony capitalizing on MS's mistake is fair cause MS made the mistake.

The only thing that makes this completely invalid is the fact that the Xbox One is already cheaper than the PS4 and is not in the lead in the US. So he needs to throw that Playbook out. Predicting that the PS4 will have a price drop does nothing to help his cause.

Whats the difference? Both are trying to denounce the other one...

I think there's a few people on this forum that will spot it straight away. He's trying to create a lull in PS4 sales by spreading misinformation. I find this unacceptable. Business is business but to try and create a lull in sales by suggesting your opposition is likely to announce a price drop at the Paris Games Week is below the belt. It might not have a huge effect but this is exactly what he's doing here.:

Xbox Boss Expects PS4 Price Drop in US

Speaking with IGN in an interview for next week's episode of Podcast Unlocked, Xbox head Phil Spencer spoke about the recent price cut on the PlayStation 4 in Japan, expressing his confidence in the likelihood of it soon happening in the west.

"I fully expect they [PlayStation] will drop price. When I think about the playbook they've used in the past, we feel good about the plans we have in place going forward in the holiday. If history tells, then we'll see a price drop from them coming."

Spencer also mentioned Sony's presence at Paris Games Week, suggesting perhaps an announcement could be made at that time. But, he doesn't necessarily feel threatened by the possibility and even suggests it would be a good thing.

"It's great for gamers when price competition happens. We saw that last holiday, and we saw crazy sales numbers on all of the consoles," he said.

Oh it is very obvious I fully agree.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

Isn't it fair for him to give his opinion as a gamer, as to whether the price will drop or not?

Is speculation a crime now? Let's say he's "speaking for Sony". What if he's playing mind games?

Did Sony? Or are they just annoucing they aren't gonna restrict used games?

That's actually false, Sony making themselves look better, "PS4 can play all the used games it wants", you could say it makes the XB1 look bad, but it doesn't really do anything that Microsoft hasn't already done by saying "XB1 can't play used games"

That's the difference.

Well Sony had already announced a price drop in Japan and other Asian countries. People speculated that they would do so for the west as well. So in a way they did start it...

Maybe if he paid Michael Pachter to pre-empt Sony's announcement then he wouldn't be in such hot water lately. Desperation can really make a smart person do dumb things. He's the head of Xbox. He has no business with Sony.

You know what's unprofessional and unethical?

The video on how to share used videogames during E3 2013. On the light of when MS announced their X1 policies, Yoshida and the other weird guy with glasses, showed their true face.

And there are more of these type of "unethical" attitudes, towards MS and Nintendo coming from Sony execs.

Exactley how was that unethical? I'd also like to see these other examples aswell.

How? Any self respecting official of a multi billion dollar company wouldn't make a sly video of that kind. But it's ingrained in them.

Sony Exec Calls Nintendo Products "Babysitting Tools"

Sony exec dismisses Nintendo DS as "irrelevant"

Sony Exec Teases Microsoft over Xbox Policy

The first two are pretty douchey, but unethical? I'd love to see what you would call something that's really unethical.

Edit: I should point out that I don't think what Phil is doing is unethical either.

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.
