Forums - Gaming - Ss the AAA Bubble bursting?

Could also be that marketing costs are hitting publishers and developers really hard. Everyone assumes it is just development costs that are sky high, but with games now being advertised like Blockbuster films on Billboards, TV, cinema, magazines etc it must hike the price of a game considerably.

OPs argument also suggests that games that didn't make money had no development issues, bad budget management and silly engine development costs.

Why is it I constantly find myself defending the different market sectors of the video games industry?

People said PC gaming was dying, I defended it and it's now thriving. The Indie model is great for innovation an is thriving on consoles as well as PC. Mobile games help smaller studios make money. F2P helps devs to make money and is a perfectly valid business model as long as you don't take the piss out of your customers.

Back on topic, AAA is going nowhere and the costs are actually being reduced. PC/PS4/X1 all have similar architectures making development that much cheaper. Then we have the fact that more consumers are choosing to purchase and download their games which removes the cost of the retailer and the packaging. If studios die, it's no different to the previous console generations (I said the same last gen and the gen before). Devs create, compete, and unfortunately some fail. It's the nature of business.

AAA and development costs and time sky-rocketing in my opinion just hurted the industry as a whole. We get a bucnh of games cloning each other because there are too much money so they can`t take much risks, we get games being delayed forever ( Square Enix and the FF vs XIII turned into FF XV), and eternal sequences that seem to never stop ( Hi Call Of Duty and Assassins Creed). A FF games took 2 years to be made, now they take 10. Many developers and publishers are struggling just to stay open even selling millions.

You must be completely ignorant on FFXV's development.  One FF game takes a long time now your trying to say all will is ridiculous.

we are seeing more AAA games ever than before this year and next year. And you think they are dying.....? thats funny.

There is always the AA for $40.

AAA is not a bubble it never was. Its not a brief, momentary fad that blew up over 2-3 years.

However, its changed significantly. Mostly for the worst where consumers pay more, development cost more, and relatively a lot less people are happy. That may change in upcoming years, but what has been established this gen and the end of last gen has really hurt the industry.
