Forums - Gaming - People who claim Kojima is sexist should watch this

I dont see why Quiet being sexualized is such a problem? if someone finds it so disgusting they should just avoid the game? There are tons of games today that have a "better" representation of women if thats your thing.

Unless you're Anita Sarkeesian and claim this stuff has a negative impact on mens real life behavior (with 0 evidence mind you) literally Jack Thompson 2.0

Couldn't you say this about every game ever released? "If you have a problem with no voice chat in x game, you can buy x game that has it". "If you don't like the story of the game, play one that has a better one". And so on. I don't agree with this logic at all. I don't think it's a concidence that Lara's boobs look normal in the reboot. People complain and developers some times listen. If you don't, they never will.

Everybody is sexist. Men and women. Who says otherwise either is a liar or lacks self-awareness. I just watched Dark Shadows last night. This made me laughing:

Elizabeth: Do you think the sexes should be equal?
Victoria: Heavens, no. Men would become quite unmanageable

Why aren't there more photo's of Stefanie in this thread?

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

I thnk the problem is a mix of over sensitivity, a need to be angry at something and not actually understanding what words like sexism really mean. "Bigot" gets thrown around with completely the wrong meaning too. Most people calling people bigots are actually being bigoted themselves haha.

Are you saying women with big boobs in real life aren't normal? That's a bit mean. :p

With Tomb Raider, the extra large busom was a deliberate design choice, however as much as people may pooh pooh it now, it was a very important step forward for video games. There was an unusually large female audience for the original Tomb Raiders too that would probably have overlooked it had it been an Indiana Jones cliche main character.

I perfectly agree with if you don't like it don't get it mentality. At the end of the day, if there is a market for something, it is there, whether you personally like it or not. People need to start accepting that not everything is necessarily aimed at them.

Think of it this way:

-I liked Persona 4g, but I found the combat a little boring.

-Well if you don't like the game, don't buy it.

- I loved Naruto Ninja Storm 2, but I hate online only trohies. Wish they'd remove them.

-Well if you don't like the game, don't buy it.

-Dragon Age was awesome, but I hate miscrotransactions/on disc dlc.

-Well if you don't like the game, don't buy it.

I don't see anything wrong with complaining about these things. How else are developers supposed to know how to improve their games? Or what's the point of discussion, if we don't express our opinion?

I think it's thanks to complains about the depiction of women in video games that we now get video games like Horizon.

I see your point there. :)

Expressing an opinion is fine, on the depiction of women side though, there is a very strong "I don't want that so no one else should have it either" aspect which is what particularly grates.

When it is purely character design that is make or break in whether you will play a game or not it's quite troubling (not aimed at you directly). The evolution of Lara Croft directly reflects on an evolution in audience taste though. KKK cups were a novel selling point in 1996. In 2015 it's not.

But aren't we all expressing an opinion that can affect other people's enjoyment of a game? For example, I saw the Hellblade gameplay video and absolutely loved both the camera and combat. It looks really different from anything I've ever played (I'm sure there are some games that are similar, though). Now if you look at the comments under the video, some people seem to be hating it. The developers saw such comments and are planning to make some changes to their intial vision.

These changes will most likely affect my enjoyment of the game. So, when I say that I don't like this depiction of women, of course I am talking about myself and of course that could affect the enjoyment of the game of others. But that goes for all complaints. Doesn't it? I'm not gonna tell Ninja Theory to ignore people's complaints just because I like the game the way it is. I will let them decide and will only state the fact that I, personally, do like it as it is.

People are stupid.
