Forums - Sales Discussion - August 2015 NPD Thread! PS4, XBO, Wii U estimates up!

PS4 being number one is a big deal considering the Xbox One deals, Gears, Rare's Collection, exclusive Madden advertising, Madden Bundle, Gamescom (solo conference), and backwards compatibility being announced....

Walmart and Gamestop.

PS4 on top again despite all the deals and games from MS last month. Looking forward to next month.

There were no deals and bundles for PS4 in August?

We all know whether or not the PS4(and Wii U) gets deals and bundles, it doesn't compare to what the Xbox One gets. lol

Again, there were *no* deals for PS4 in August?

They weren't nearly as good.  Free with TV or $175 with trade-in...  Come on. PS4 had nothing on those sales....

Yes, and thankyou for your support for the PSVITA as well. Seriously, no mention to the Vita again!?!?
Even Nintendo is mentioning the Wii U even if it getting slayed from the competition.

Are you being serious? Why would they even mention the Vita? Seriously? It's not like the Vita sells a lot.

Nearly as good is subjective and would only be a measurement of sales. And the PS4 had more sales. I mean, it's one thing to make the PS4 victory look even better than it actually is but we should at least also say what the reason was for PS4 to have the sales and that would include deals and bundles, too, right? Otherwise people would assume they were absolutely no deals or bundles to compete with MS which is wrong.

You are right but we should also then point out like for like deals and the reality of PSTV and PSVita not being products most customers are interested in, especially in the US where the Vita is barely relevant.

In comparison you have Gears, one of the most successful franchises, an annual Sports game with a decent following and the extremely nostalgic Rare collection with some of the best Rare games including Conkers Bad Fur Day.

The PS4 bundles are stale in comparison to the X1s. It would be different if you had the Gears bundle go up against the MGS bundle, or the Rare bundle against a Tearaway bundle.

Is there a complete list available of all bundles with duration time to objectively compare? Also Gears was launched way too late to make substantial differences in hardware sales, in my opinion.

Very surprised to see ps4 win August with everything going on for Microsoft last months. It was practically given to them on a platter and they still lost.

The only meaningful thing for Sony I can think of was gamestop giving away free Madden 16 copies with every new ps4 sold.

Not sure how long that promotion lasted though. But compared to everything Xbox had, that seems like nothing.

September should be much bigger with the Destiny ps4 bundle and mgs 5. Not to mention what gets announced next week at tgs.

Sony is the market leader. They have momentum. Winning shouldn't be a surprise.

Especially in the modern market, if I buy a console I want the same console as my other friends have, and if more of them have a PS4, I'm going to get the PS4 so we can play online together.

It doesn't matter what deals Microsoft puts up really to that extent. I'm not going to get an XBox One just to save maybe $50 and not be able to play with my friends online for the next 5 years. $50 doesn't even buy you a new game these days, it's a cheap dinner and a movie with the girlfriend, big whoop.
