If you guys honestly liked the GameCube controller then that's fine. I won't argue with anyone's opinion. However, it does bother me that people nowadays talk about the GameCube controller like it was something created by the gods. This was not the opinion shared by many when the GameCube was still alive. The most common complaints were that the A and B buttons should have been the same size, the Z button felt awkward as if Nintendo was trying to create a successor to the N64 Z button but wasn't sure where to place it, the D-pad was small, and the C-stick should have been just like the regular analog stick. Most people preferred the PS2 controller as did I.

I'm not saying I hated the GameCube controller. I think it was far superior than the original Xbox Duke controller. I also think that the GameCube controller was better than the Dreamcast controller in almost every way except for the trigger buttons and the VMU (why Nintendo never capitalized on that is odd). I just think the GameCube controller is overrated.....even though it never used to be.

God I hope not. Next 3rd party devs will be saying the controller layout is the reason they don't make their games on NX. Nintendo invented the diamond button layout and shoulder buttons in their controllers. They should stick with it. Besides it would take so many upgrades to make the gamecube controller viable today that it would only have the shape of the gamecube controller and that's it.

What about clickable analogs? What about the Gyroscopic controls that makes Splatoon awesome and dual stick controllers viable for shooters without aim assist? What about the NFC reader that will bring Amiibo to next gen? Headset support? Speaker in the controller? Nintendo would end up trying to cram all this stuff in there that it would defeat the purpose. Let the GameCube stay dead where it died, when the Wii launched.

Wii U Pro controller is pretty good..

I wouldn't mind. The GameCube controller is still my favorite controller after all these years!

The Gamecube controller was perhaps the worst controller of any major console ever. Why would you want Nintendo to use such a terrible controller?

I disagree.

The buttons were just... clunky. Like, really clunky, all of them. Maybe that's just the SNES controller I played on more recently, but that's how it felt to me. Either way, it was surely far better than the NES and N64 ones, so that's something.

But you know, the Gamecube controller was far better than what came before it. It was the first one to have dual analogs (which worked well unlike that N64 crap), ergonomy, proper triggers and what not. That's why people love it, really. It's the same reason Ocarina of Time is still held up as the best game ever and stuff like that.

The Wii U Pro Controller is VERY easily the best traditional controller Nintendo has ever made. If they do a redesign of it with analog triggers, gyro/motion sensors, and maybe speakers/mic for the NX, I'll be happy.

The GameCube controller was the epitome of clunky controllers. Nintendo's worst controller. It was bad, really bad.

1. It made tons of plasticky noise whenever someone used it.

2. The button configuration was totally fucked up.

3. The d-pad, c-stick, and z-trigger were completely worthless.

4. The analog sticks were garbage toy quality.

the entire controller was less like a true videogame controller, and more like a cheaply made children's toy.

Nintendo should evolve, i hope with iwata's passing nintendo takes more risks, nintendo should embrace the future, nintendo should stop living in the past...

nintendo should keep using the gamecube controller.

because bringing it back for smash fanboys wasn't enough

An updated wireless gamecube controller (that is also PC compatible) would be fantastic.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

As long as it was a redesigned one for the C-stick wasn't so horrible and they had the 2 shoulder buttons on each side. Could be easily done.

I love the GameCube controller, it is fantastic; however, I think they should update it a bit. Swap the control stick with the d-pad, have the c-stick be the same as the control stick, add another Z button and make the face buttons a uniform shape. Keep the colours though, it doesn't feel Nintendo-y without colour (one of my few complaints about the Wiimote)
