Btw all this stuff about 60fps vs 30fps.
Yes 60fps looks more fluently, yet sense of speed is better and handling is more responsive in DC 30fps vs Project cars 60fps. A well made 30fps can be just as effective as brute force 60fps, sometimes even more effective as in DC vs Project cars. Racing is mostly about track memorization anyway, not reacting to sudden things appearing in 16ms time frames.

If you wanna prove racing games can still be fun at 30 fps, just point to Forza 2 Horizon. Its arguably the best racing game on the market.

But when it comes to these track racing games, I just prefer when 60 fps is a priority. People are fine with Driveclub being 30 fps but it would be unacceptable for Gran Turismo.

Hm, Forza 6 looks decent but Driveclub looks miles better.

Well you would hope so at half the frame rate. But at some point you just play the game and stop paying attention to visual nuances.

I would like Forza to have the attention to detail as Driveclub, but 60 fps has more impact on gameplay.

You can argue FPS all day but at the end of the day DC> Forza 6 in terms of graphics.

Finally got a chance to play the Forza 6 demo. Man that Brickyard F1 race is insane!

Racing in the rain in Forza is no joke. It impacts your handling to a much higher degree than in DC, which I guess should be a given considering DC is an arcade racer and Forza a sim. Just hitting a puddle in the game can send you careening off the track. It's awesome. Here is me first making a Gran Turismo style bumper car pass as I underestimate how far you slide on the wet track, followed by me later almost spinning out via water puddle:

Visually I would give the effects edge to DC, which again is a given considering many reasons already discussed, most important being hardware and gearing towards visuals versus frame rate. In terms of actual gameplay though, Forza rain effects win by a mile versus what I remember of DC before I sold it. The rain effects were gorgeous, but the gameplay impact not so much.

I'm not arguing, half the frame rate is worth noting given that's part of the presentation. Its the better looking game that runs half as well.

Battlefield is better looking than CoD, but it usually comes with an inferior frame rate and/or resolution as well.

I think they should have delayed it a year and then patched in the rain at a later date. And make it 30fps. Then it would look better.

I don't think it would still look like DC  and that game will be called FH3 next year.

It is not even close between the two. I am wondering if the rain in Forza has any intensity from drizzle to heavy down pour. As it is not dynamic and  will not change during the races

Forza looks bad from my point of view. The cars feels cartoonish and unpolished. The car in the video is even looking dry in the middle of the rain. They are only showing the rain from the car interior view. Check the video at 30 seconds and see if my claims are valid or not.

It's arguable indeed, as in I prefer track racers. Open world is more for check list racing, not real racing.
Gran Turismo will work fine at 30 fps, most people race in street cars, no need for 60 fps. The red bull x1 might be a bit tricky at 30fps, yet a honda civic, 30 fps is fine. But it would indeed be unacceptable in public opinion.
I prefer when sense of speed and responsive handling is a priority. Many racing games manage to screw that up regardless of 30 or 60fps.

60fps>30fps in racing games.
That said, neither Drive CLub nor Forza Horizon 2 feel or play actually bad. Just not as fluid as a 60fps racing game.

Does Drive Club and especially it's weather look better? Yes.

I'd clearly prefer 60fps over eyecandy though.

That said, Forza 6 should get rain for every track.

I would give it a lot more than an edge. Watching that after playing DC for an hour it looks a gen apart.

The puddles affecting your car is cool though, however regaining control and steering back to the track on the wet grass, not very realistic, nor are the collisions.  DC's handling is only marginally impacted based on how much water is on the track, the bigger burden is on your memory when visibility reaches near zero while driving behind all the spray. Project cars goes the other way, visibility remains very good while driving in wet quickly becomes a nightmare. I have to check back to that though, last time I played PC the AI was still largely unaffected by rain while your car would constantly spin out trying to follow their path.

Its clear DriveClub's visuals are top when it comes to racing games, however visuals only take racing games so far. DriveClub was designed from the bottom up to be a visual treat much like how Ryse was the best looking game for the past 2 years since the XB1 launched taking home SIGGRAPH 2014 awards etc. It also explains there low scoring reviews because they lack the details needed to be great games and I am not talking about the graphic fronts.

Yes DriveClub looks better, there are many reasons why it looks better and being 30 frames is a very clear indication on the devs motives for the game. Forza isn't just about looking good. Forza 6 still looks amazing and from what I have played from the demo I can clearly say its the best looking Racing Sim I have seen on the market. If Turn 10 really wanted to sacrifice gameplay for visuals they would have opted for 30 frames as well. Just imagine how good Forza 6 would look like with twice the processing power of 30 frames? That shows true talent right there. FM6 still looks amazing and its 60 frames at 1080p, something next gen games have been failing to achieve since launch.

Not downplaying DriveClub, the game looks incredible but lets be honest here. Any company can make a good looking game running at 30 especially a Racing game. Making a good looking game at 60 is another story. Something FM6 deserves credit for.
