Fantastic feature to have in the device, but I very much doubt it made any type of difference outside of a minute one.

First answer nails it.

It deserves a lot of credit regardless of imperfection.

Any criticism of it is really unwarannted other than perhaps a little overhyping.

This would have been massive in 2013. In 2015, it's .. better than nothing, but severely diluted in relevance.

But is it a good thing that it exists, and works at all? Yes, without qualification or hesitation.

Couldn't have said it better myself. It's a great feature to have for sure, but if your trying to impact the market/momentum with it, that time has long since passed.

Im not exactly sure what its even asking? If you're asking if its helping sales, why would it help it sell and how would we even know? It just plain comes off as since my fav lacks this, im going to downplay as much as possible.

wait until the holidays which is when it really counts.

Uh, will let you know when it's out...should be useful though since the XBO will have the biggest library.

MS are also really smart. The only reason I bought Gears of War now is because I will get the old games digitally. And this, my friends, is a genius move.

OP, maybe you could explain exactly what you're referring to BC "helping"? If it's sales, the feature is not even live yet. If you're talking word of mouth, I think the buzz around it has been great.

There is a method of downplaying BC here in Chartz where people point to sales and say BC clearly doesn't matter. This thinking is extremely simple minded and misses the point of the feature. It was the most requested feature of people who either are already interested in it or already own the console. So sales are not going to magically pick up by millions in June because of a feature launching in November or so.

It's a fan service.

I remember as time when (2006-2008ish) when B/C was laughed at. When next gen consoles were for next gen games and all we heard on the interwebs was 'have fun playing your old games while the rest of us are playing our shiny next gen games.' I also seem to remember a certain console pick up sales following the loss of B/C and then the world never looked back.

IMHO B/C is a nice feature to have, but at this point (two years into the console cycle) it's a bit of a wash. It isn't going to help MS sell a ton more consoles and it will be abandoned in less than two years anyways. It is a desperation play, a stop-gap, by MS and a crude cudgel used in the console war rhetoric.

People didn't spend $500.00 and $400.00 on new consoles to play old titles, IMO. Have you seen the game line-up the rest of 2015 and 2016 for PS4 and Xbox One? Yeah!

5% of gamers use BC. Microsoft said it themselves. Look it up.

It's not even available yet. How would we know? Was it suppose to be instantaneous sells?

Also, gamers who really cared about their PS3 or Xbox 360 collection, kept their 360/PS3. If you care about them, I would recommend buying a last gen console also. Games will run better and you can play everything. By the time Microsoft finishes putting together enough titles to make the list look impressive on Xbox One. This gen will be over.
