I remember as time when (2006-2008ish) when B/C was laughed at. When next gen consoles were for next gen games and all we heard on the interwebs was 'have fun playing your old games while the rest of us are playing our shiny next gen games.' I also seem to remember a certain console pick up sales following the loss of B/C and then the world never looked back.
IMHO B/C is a nice feature to have, but at this point (two years into the console cycle) it's a bit of a wash. It isn't going to help MS sell a ton more consoles and it will be abandoned in less than two years anyways. It is a desperation play, a stop-gap, by MS and a crude cudgel used in the console war rhetoric.
