Because Microsoft, perhaps? I'm honestly a bit confused how Mohjang is meant to work though, seeing as how one of their IPs is going to be (and not just will continue to be) released on rival home consoles.

Even as a big Nintendo fan, this seems pointless to me. Why now? Just release it on NX.

They didn't buy Minecraft/Mojang to sell Xbox hardware. It was about maximizing software revenue and to have a killer app for HoloLens.

Minecraft on Nintendo platforrms could be huge, especially with official character packs.
