Yeah they did.
I don't doubt that, but like they didn't talk up NSMBU, for example, as the second coming of Jesus when it was coming out. Sold well anyway. Same with NSLU.

Basically. The remasters are what put me off. I mean I don't think that Nintendo even really considered remastering Smash.
I'm honestly hoping that Splatoon broke new ground in getting Nintendo to create new and unique experiences for their platforms going into the future.
It really depends on when it releases and what it is. If anything I'm fairly certain there's going to be a 3D Mario at release regardless.
I'm thinking, from the top of my head:
Launch Titles:
3D Mario
Zelda U NX port if 2016; Zelda TP HD if 2017
New IP by EAD
Launch Window:
Mario Kart 9
Retro Studios game (could be new IP as well, I'm not seeing them doing a Metroid or DK anymore)
Animal Crossing
2D Mario?? Why? I really don't see Nintendo work on another 2D Mario game for a long while due to Mario Maker.

This would be pretty pathetic launch and on pair with Wii U, that said, after Wii U they need really strong launch, you cant have strong launch with 2D Mario and Multiplayer Mini Game, Wii U is proof of that.
I don't agree with your list almost at all expect Zelda U port and 3D Mario game.
I dont see 2D Mario game in first year, Smash Bros for NX remaster (or any Wii U remaster for NX), no Super Pokken Tournament, no Donkey Kong game in first year.

It seems like a pattern of every 3 years now.
2006-New Super Mario Bros.
2009-New Super Mario Bros. Wii
2012-New Super Mario Bros. 2/U
2015-Super Mario Maker
2018-Super Mario Maker 2????

-Luigis Mansion or something else from Next Level

I also wonder if we could see Retro's game launch with the NX or maybe come out after the launch window is over. I just wish we could know what they are working on!

I think that Retro game is almost certain for NX launch or NXs first year. Probably we will see it next year on E3.
