86 plus down to 50 mil lifetime is not tanking?

No, the market is changing. I think we all anticipated less consoles being sold this gen than last gen.

PS3 was a financial disaster for Sony. It also sold significantly less than PS2. But PS3 still had a massive userbase.

3DS isnt going to sell anywhere near DS, but thats okay. It still sold really well and moved a ton of software.

Vita is a genuine tank. Sony has basically cut its losses on it. Its selling a small fraction of PSP. The failure of Vita isnt entirely Sony's fault in my opinion. The market changed.

Wii U is another platform Id consider a tank. It had no potential of achieving Wii sales. But it could have sold much better if they stuck with Wiimote thus keeping the console cheaper and more appealing. That tablet was a mistake.

X1 is doing respectable. NES and SNES sold 50-60 million units and are fondly remembered by many. X1 doesent need to achieve 360 numbers to find success.

Then how do youe explain the sales success of the PS4 while the X1 is failling? i would agree with your argument if you were refering to wii to wiiU. but in this case it holds no water

They werent oblige to keep them up forever nor do you have to subscribe forever.

Sony has shut down servers just to encourage people to buy their new game. Thats pretty gross.

I think its deff at least a grey area when you start charging for it. If Sony has done this they are not immune to my displesure as well.

Well games cost money to make and servers cost money to maintain.

I pay for both XBL and PS+ because they are a good value beyond access to online play.

Which is why paying for the services makes sense, them shutting them down does not. I agree with your second statment

X1 made bad moves and they are paying for it. But they still have a strong following thanks to mistakes made with PS3.

Hence, X1 probably wont do as well as 360. But if you feel X1 is a flat out failure, well youre just wrong. Less success than the predecessor is not equal to failure. In a nutshell, its not black and white but you act like it is.

Again, they arent oblige to keep servers up because you pay. If they shut down servers for the only titles you enjoy than stop paying them.

I assume people unsubscribed when OG Xbox servers shut down. Thats the logical thing to do if you had no interest in playing 360 games online.

IMO its a grey area, legacy systems make sense current gen tho would be a big outrage for me.

Microsoft is the greediest first party corporation of them all in gaming. They have to pander to people because they desperate to beat Sony so they are under control. They don't like Sony having market dominance in anything revolving around multimedia because it's a threat to their outside dominance.

I like pandering. That allowed me to get a PS3 at a fraction of the launch price with Uncharted 2 and God of War 3. Pandering is why I also have a great digital collection on my Vita.

Sony isnt pandering with PS4 and thats why Im happy with my X1 right now. I got the money for PS4, but Sony is too reliant on 3rd party at the moment. So I can wait until Sony really puts out something notable.

So is Microsoft. Both are more reliant on third party. I will tell you this, because someone must've knocked me out cold and I just came back from it, but somehow I agree with you about Microsoft pandering while losing and putting out more content (regardless of where it comes from). Most people don't know it but but Microsoft is going to wreck fourth quarter. They've got it on lock and there is nothing Sony seems to have the ability to do about it. Sony will outsell them for the year, but MS has fourth quarter for sure.

Well MS made the X1, they are responsible for much of what makes X1 a great system.

MS made bad moves and great moves, that's why X1 is still selling many units and not fading into obscurity. The sales disparity between X1 and PS4 is big, but its not OG Xbox vs PS2 big. Lets not pretend X1 is irrelevant.

Sometimes I think I come off as Anti-MS so I feel the need to throw in my two cents:

1) Just because one detests Xbox does not mean they hate MS. Actually I quite like MS a lot in certain respects like Windows, and so I hate that XBOX is wasting so much of their money and imo doing negative things to the gaming industry.

2) The Xbox has always been an inferior copy of Playstation. I'm sorry but MS has said it themselves that they only created it to stop Sony from dominating the market, and to sneak an MS media device into the living room. As such they have always had one foot outside the door so-to-speak. Their heart has never been in it to win it, and it will always show and hold them back.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.
