Forums - Nintendo - NX: How Do You Feel About Scalable Games + Controller With LCD display (again)

It would likely make. The console too expensive to compete on other more important aspects (gflops count too... Gimmicks, less)

I really like the idea of scalable games, but I still don't know how to feel about the controller with a screen.. I just hope it's a small one and not something too big like with the Gamepad!

I'll go with what 97alexk said on the first page: maybe the NX home console (with, hopefully, a regular controller) can connect to the NX handheld and use it as an extra controller.

Regarding the scale up or down thing, it could just mean that you'll be able to play NX handheld games on the TV through the NX home console, that will use its own hardware to upscale the games to the TVs resolution, 1080p and apply AA and other effects to make them look "good enough".

By the way, other options for a controller with a display are that NX can use the Wii U's Gamepad (note that this doesn't mean BC compatibility with games, only with hardware) or, if we go the extra mile, that the NX controller will in fact be a completely functional handheld that can used by itself. Of course that's almost impossible because it would make the console too expensive.

Please excuse my bad English.

Does Nintendo know that people have something called a "Television" ?

it's becoming far less important than it used to be. That's why the TV market is crashing.

Nintendo should really ditch the whole screen on the controller thing imo... it hasn't worked for the Wii U at all why try again? most games don't even use it for more than a minimap anyway, it's a useless gimmick.

The NX should have a normal controller, no fucking gimmicks, if people are so desperate for off-tv play Nintendo could sell a gamepad as an optional accessory.

If Nintendo doesn't hit it out of the park with the NX then I guarantee it will be their last home console they ever release. Not because they can't afford it, but because it just wouldn't make business sense when your last two consoles you tried to release ended up selling poorly. They'll just stick to handhelds if that happens.

I find it funny how people always try to be smarter than Nintendo. Do you think you are really better technicians, better programmers, better managers, better whatever in connection with videogames than the guys from Nintendo?

I you have paid some attention to what Nintendo said about their future, you will find several hints towards a 'unified hardware architecture'. If this means a fusion console, or just a home console and a handeld console based on similar architecture, to make it easy to port games from one to the other is currently not known. But you have to accept that it will be 'unified', if you like it or not.

Maybe they're forced to keep it?

With a unified platform, say the handheld has a game like Kirby's Rainbow Curse (which is basically a touch only game) ... how would that game then work on the console version?

Or like with Splatoon 2, how do they keep the map functionality and some of the gameplay features the game has? I think Nintendo wants to avoid some games not being playable on one device or the other.

Maybe the screen will be smaller this time around (3-4 inches?) and is to be used more as secondary thing or being able to emulate some functions of the handheld version in a pinch.

And maybe offer a console SKU which doesn't come with the controller at all, so that if you bought the portable NX, then it can function as a controller for the console NX if you buy that too, so you're not paying for the redundant cost there.

Motion Controls didn't work as well for the power glove didn't stop it working for the Wii.
