Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo making over Million Wii's a month

I watched in some Gametrailers video that Nintendo is making over 1 million Wii's a month. If I remember correctly it was close to 2 million. My question is if they are really making that many consoles a month why is it still sold out? The Wii's arnt even selling one million a month. Are they holding back consoles for some reason? If you wanna see the video of Reggie saying that go and watch GameTrailers TV episode 1.

It's just spin.

Don't believe this bullshit just because it Nintendo saying it, and not Sony & MS.  Nintendo lies and does dirty stuffjust like everyone else.

I think you are wrong there. They are usually selling 1 million+ a month. Also if this wasn't true how are there a total of 22 million wiis sold in around 15 months.

they are holding some back for big games and for holidays im sure in the beggining of the next fiscal year ninty will ship much more

I think those 22 million are mainly because of Launch and Holidays. Look at the last couple of months after December. Hell look at this month so far. The Wii hasnt even sold 200,000 this week. Multiply that by 4 and thats about 800,000 this month.

I thought that was what they wanted to build up to. I thought they werent producing that much right as of now.

Their stated production rate is 1.8 million units per month. January sales were roughly 1.3 million, as were February sales, and March is looking to be about that many too. They stated earlier that they plan to launch in new regions this coming fiscal year (which starts April 1st). And you cannot launch in a new region with no product available to sell. Given their hold-back rate of .5 million per month, it's reasonable to assume that they want around 1.5 million units available for the launch of the Wii in territories such as China.

Also, going by the lowest sales for a month as an average is deceptive, particularly when they fluctuate heavily each week.  To wit:

January sales:

5-Jan 522,583
12-Jan 203,172
19-Jan 258,137
26-Jan 313,058

Total: 1,296,950

February sales:

2-Feb 343,049
9-Feb 438,028
16-Feb 234,901
23-Feb 241,908

 Total: 1,257,886

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

They're not producing the 1.8/month.

Cause it's never sold that much/month [save for christmas]

It is selling out, but they're not producing 1.8.

That's why it's never 1.8/month.

But other people will say they're stockpiling for christmas... in March. [lol]

Don't look at one week an multiply. Tally up total sales over a given time peroid.

The 1.8 million per month production rate has been announced since around summer last year, maybe even spring.

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 01st Sep 2007 to 29th Dec 2007:

ConsoleWii
Total
8,220,990

A four month peroid selling over 2 million Wiis per month. Obviously they had been piling up stock for the holidays since before September, and they still couldn't satisfy demand. They even air freighted a bunch of units which should have been January stock, disrupting supply for the start of this year. Whether continued shortages are a result of this disruption or new stockpiling for game releases or region launches (or all of the above) is up to debate.
