Don't look at one week an multiply. Tally up total sales over a given time peroid.
The 1.8 million per month production rate has been announced since around summer last year, maybe even spring.

A four month peroid selling over 2 million Wiis per month. Obviously they had been piling up stock for the holidays since before September, and they still couldn't satisfy demand. They even air freighted a bunch of units which should have been January stock, disrupting supply for the start of this year. Whether continued shortages are a result of this disruption or new stockpiling for game releases or region launches (or all of the above) is up to debate.
