I see too many people taking one side or another. He made a mistake and broke the rules, so they were justified in firing him. It sucks that he made the mistake in the first place, but that's the way mistakes go. He's not terrible for being imperfect and Nintendo's not terrible for firing him.

The dude made a stupid decision breaking the rule, but the rule he broke was stupid(ly strict). In the end it's his own fault.

Have to wonder if he wanted to be fired

Did he say something so bad they couldn't just let him off the hook with a warning? Rules are rules of course, but we are humans, firing someone over a podcast seems very ****** up..

Many companies have it in the contracts that you're not allowed to speak publically in regards to the company or their activities unless sanctioned, financial companies are an example of this as are military and security organisations and tech companies. You're notified when you take the job do not speak to the public unless permitted, it's not really down to what you say you simply just can't do it under contract as it can put the company and employees at risk.

What exactly did he say that was so bad?

Nothing really, I listened to most of it and it didnt in anyway paint nintendo in a bad light.

Some of it had to do with him trying to explain nintendos point of view, when talking about translations of japanese games to other regions.

How sometimes with how small a market could be for a game, and the work and cost of translations/voiceacting/new marketing ect, sometimes couldnt justify the work/cost of doing so.'

He talked about marketing for Smash brother too, I loved that part.

I think Nintendo over reacted fireing him, something like this, wouldnt warrent more than a warning Id think.

My Japanese source indicates that he mentioned financial data of Xenoblade Chronicle, in which he said it lost money for the company.

Leaking financial data is usually considered as very, very bad idea.

In regards to that he basically said the cost of localizing far outweighed what they got back and outlined how localizing is actually far more expensive then people realize but I doubt that's an issue as contract wise he needed permission to be speaking publically. The one issue is thatit confirmed if NOE never brought the game over the wouldn't be a western version.
