Uh, Splatoon boost is due to the update? Color me surprised.

I believe it got more commercials and stuff to advertise the update... What a time to be alive.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Nobunaga bomba. RoTTK bomba.

Hardly bomba as that seems to be pretty standard for handheld releases. They consistently sell hardly any units at all, yet Koei continues to make them.

I did see decent advertising for it but it vvasn't anything major.

With them both being numbered 2 are they rereleases as well? If so that would also explain why they sold so poorly.

They are both remakes and not of the 2nd title.

Which ones are they remakes of?

Nobunagas is a remake of the DS title, vvhich is also a remake of the 7th in the series. Rotk is a remake of the 3rd one, a former SNes game.

Famitsu's sellthrough suggests that Koei Tecmo and/or retailers were expecting a lot more, hence "bomba".

And they probably still expect it to sell. Cannot just simply look at sellthrough and label as bomba. The last Nobunagas ambition on 3DS sold about 9000 FVV. This is a remake of a remake released alongside a remake. Both are similar games and end up selling 8000 together.

Sell-through is horrible, but when we're talking about 3,000 units, what's left? 8,000 copies? Percentage looks bad, units left is not that terrible.

A true bomba is Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Edition. Still there're around 80,000 copies in stores to be sold. That's what I call a true bomba. And a pain in the a** for retailers.

(According to Famitsu, unfortunately we're dealing with quite large ranges)

Nobunaga shipped copies = 11,107 - 21,157

Romance of Three Kingdoms shipped copies = 8,918 - 16,985

252   3DS Nobunaga's Ambition 8,024 13,252

FW sales of Nobunaga = 4,443

Copies on Nobunaga on shelves = 6,664 - 16,714

312   3DS Romance of the Three Kingdoms 4,648 4,648

FW sales of RoTTK = 3,567

Copies on RoTTK shelves = 5,351 - 13,418

I agree, in absolute numbers terms, there have been much worse bombas that have been much more overshipped.  I just don't understand how Koei Tecmo managed to convince retailers to take so many copies.  I thought the whole thing about Japanese retailers was that they can't return games to the publishe so anything that gets overshipped has to be price slashed to be moved.

To be honest, I'm not quite sure why they're doing ports like this for such low sales.  Even the Ateliers on Vita, which I thought haven't been worthwhile post-Meruru, move about 3 x more than these.
