Forums - Nintendo - Splatoon is a very serious contender for my game of generation so far

This thread would've gone better if you said, contender for gotg *So Far*.

But even then it's probably a resounding no, it's a great game but it's getting wayyy more credit than it deserves.

And yes the colour wars game linked earlier looks so much like splatoon, the colour pallet the animations. Just re-skin it, add a few game modes and make some maps that take advantage of the mechanics and boom splatoon.

Splatoon plays nothing like that game, nothing. That video had 200 visits until Splatoon came up, nobody has ripped off nothing about that game, paintball and multiplayer combat already existed way before that game. Splatoon is one of the most oiriginal games released in year, it´s concept is unique, its gameplay is like nothing else on the genre and the easthetics/design/ music are pure personality, the weapons are like nothing else on the genre too.

Even the developer of  colors wars says that Splatoon has nothing to do with it and he doesn´t believe Nintendo has take any inspiration from that, is just the concept of paintball that both share. You complain about people giving it too much credit and yet you are not able to give the game the credit of being original, something that every single review and Splatoon player thinks for some reason.

This, nothing else has been even close imo. I have not picked up Splatoon for my Wii U yet though, but I do intend to

Perhaps if it had proper local multi....

Well if being unique is all it takes then Dreams is going to be a contendor for game of the generation next year. Of course the game is original, many original games come out every year, go check Steam you'll find plenty of original fun unique games. It's quite an original game as a whole as no one has put all of the already existing elements together in one game before.

The aesthetics/design/music are very Nintendo. And the weapons? Ratchet and Clank?

There are many games on Wii U in my opinion that far exceed splatoon as being gotg material to go up against Shadow of Mordor, Bloodborne and The Witcher 3.

The game isn't fundamentally different than any other third-person shooters really. Sure they don't involve painting the map but that's hardly what's good about Splatoon I think. Honestly if you liked Splatoon you should absolutely try Transformers: War for Cybertron or Fall of Cybertron.

It really is. What game have you played that has rollers, inkbrushes and buckets as weapons? Tower Control is also something I haven't seen a lot, the only thing I can think of is that one mode in TF2. Rainmaker on the other hand looks like an interesting take on Capture the Flag. Instead of going the generic route like CoD they at least try to give an interesting spin to their modes.

The abilty to change in a squid when you're in your own ink is also what makes Splatoon stand out from any other TPS. You can hide, climb on walls and move faster in it.

As I have said the painting part of Splatoon is hardly what makes it good, I think, so all those weapons that rely on painting the map feel more like a chore to me. And I agree that the real good thing about Splatoon is the switch between an Inkling and a squid. But that's why I suggested to try Transformers (War for Cybertron or Fall of Cybertron) which are one of the most underrated games from last-gen. It has the same mechanic of changing between forms (robot to vehicle in this case). Y'all shoud try them on Steam once they're on sale.

It sure is the first experience of its kind on a Nintendo platform but for me it doesn't feel that different from many other experiences I've had on the PS3/360 and PC.

Did you play game?

What Splatoon similar experiences exactly do you have, i played games on different platforms and I never didn't have similar experience.

You clerly didnt played Splatoon.

And yes its fundamentally different than any other third-person shooters, mechanic of game are totally different.

I don't understand what exactly Splatoon have with Transformers: War for Cybertron or Fall of Cybertron!?

And of course you don't understand if you haven't played them -.-

But I'm suggesting you to try them and you'll find out!

Are you really telling us that this game is somewhat similar to Splatoon?

Because my mind is about to explode right now trying to find the similarities, you must know little about Splatoon to find anything similar there.

I guess they are "very Nintendo" because they are colorfull and charming, but the thing is... it doesn´t really look or sound like anything Nintendo has done before, it looks more like a game from Sega from an aesthetic pov.

And I don´t remember Ratchet  spreading ink with a bucket, a inkbrush or a roller, or transforming into a kraken.
