Forums - Movies & TV - Recommend me a book

Slarvax said:

I've never been a guy that reads a lot. I have been intrigued by some, and reading stuff online makes me interested in getting started on reading. So I thought, right before going to start university, it's best if I start reading some books.

I guess anything works. Books on history, game design, original stories, etc. If it helps, I've read like 5 books in my entire life: one about the history of football, Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Orange Girl, Bullshit stories (my sister gave that to me), and an inspirational-teenagers life and difficulties tips book (eugh).

What I do dislike are series' or long sagas. Either one book long story or 2. Anyway, I'd appreciate what you guys and gals can recommend me, and thanks.

Hi, hello.  I'm currently writing a book.  So far I've written a prologue and chapter one.  I have more chapters, but those two are the most critiqued and drafted over.  I really do think you may like it, it's short for now, but it's my belief that you'll want more if you read the whole of what I've written so far.  If you have time to kill and really want to start reading, please give my novel a chance.  Thanks.

It's called: The Maddening Tales of Science.

This is the tag line:

"When an old and almighty being detects a certain creature in the vastness of all reality, this demigod then abducts the creature and tells him stories of how Science made him this way. But why?"

The Girl On The Train

I really like Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne.
And the best thing is you can read it for free.

For someone trying to get into reading books, I think Dan Brown novels (Angels and Demons, Da Vinci Code, Lost Symbol) are a good starting point. The chapters are short, the plot moves along quickly and you learn fun facts as you go along. They do tend to stick to the same formula though so if you read them back to back, it gets repetitive.

Oh wow, didn't expect this many responses. Thank you everyone, and I'll try to get as many of the books you guys recommended :D (hopefully, I necrobump this to say I've read most if not all)

About the genres I like, I'd say history, literature, philosophy, anything involving time travel, physics or science overall, romance and adventures. Oooh, and terror... Specially terror and philosophy. Like I said, almost anything.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

If you like the dungeons and dragons types of adventures then I recommend the Inheretence Series. The first book is called Eragon.

If you like horror as you said, try reading the short stories of Edgar Allan Poe. He was a better writer than Stephen King. I also like H.P. Lovecraft a lot, but he's more of an acquired taste.

Something involving time travel, you say? Try the Time Machine. It's relatively short and brilliant.

Oh, and start reading the James Bond series starting with Casino Royale.
