i think we also partly to be blamed, if we dont buy their games thats what can happening

I disagree! They've released crap products so it's only natural we wouldn't buy their games. I mean look at Lord of shadows....EWWWW!

That being said treating their employees this way will only lead up to their imminate downfall :P.

Hey guys, I'm all for jumping on the "fuck Konami" bandwagon, but most of that stuff sounds really normal.

• Computers have no internet access

So the devs can only use them for work-related things... okay? What's wrong with that?

• Employees have to clock out for lunch, are punished for being late

This is the most normal thing ever. Publicly (within the company) revealing the names of those who are late as some kind of shaming is a bit odd but not exactly uncalled for. Hey there's an easy way to avoid that, get your ass back to work on time like you're being paid to do.

• Cameras in corridors

Lots of companies use cameras to monitor their employees, especially companies with valuable equipment in the work environment. I don't exactly know what putting them in corridors tells Konami, but it sounds really inoffensive to me.

• Randomized email addresses

So? Why is this a problem?

• Konami monitors Facebook

Are we really still surprised in 2015 that people can't talk openly about their employers on social media? This issue is so 2011.

The direction of Konami (leaning more towards mobile games) and the budget of MGSV have nothing to do with the rest of it, so the only thing that stands out as weird is just randomly assigning developers to cleaning duty. Everything else is completely regular.

It's like you're stuck before the universal declaration of human rights or something. That's human dignity, not to be subjected to humiliation, objectification, degradation, dehumanization etc.

It's fairly sad and a bit revolting, really, to obtain a law's degree only to find people who think and say stuff like "oh, no one asked him to take that job, yadda yadda".

They're going to crash and burn soon. I just hope it happens after MGSV comes out.

It's hardly dehumanization. "X and Y, please be punctual when returning from your lunch break." Would you give a shit if your boss said that about a couple of people you work with? Would you point and laugh at them? No, you would just go about your day. They might feel embarrassed for like 3 seconds. Calling this a human rights issue is just overdramatic.

Sounds like a company with strict security policies. So rare these days.

Not rare, but definitely not commendable in an industry that should encourage creativity.

This topic just shows most of the posters here haven't had a standard job.

Sure Konami cranked things up to an 11 on some things, but basically every corporation has these policies.

I worked at Wells Fargo as a teller part time during college, no tellers had internet access, had a rotation on cleaning the bathroom, had strict break schedules monitored by a program etc.

Doesn't Japan have some sort of a harsh work culture? Wouldn't be surprised if most of these things are the norm over there. The cleaning stuff does sound awful though. Stuff like the time and cameras happen in the US as well. Hell it happens in the company I work for, and the employees don't like it.

There's an abandoned Konami building in my city. I should vandalize it or something.
