They still got Spectre coming later this year. And don't forget Inferno which should do good too.

Inferno is not coming out until 2016.

You act as if the James Bond movie will do little to rectify their situation.  If it performs like Skyfall did, they'll be fine.

Not only is it uncertain if it will perform like Skyfall, Sony only gets a third of each Bond movie.

Some times is just bad luck and timing.

But the Sony leaks from last year shows that the previous president was in a changing strategy: no more Andam Sandler support, no more expencive casting for wierd scripts (Aloha) and fucused Spider-man movies.

That is basically what Fox did in 2009-2010.

However, in the and it´s mostly luck. Unfortunately James Bond is the only big franchise they have. Sony´s competitors have many more and can output a stedly stream of big films every year.

I don't think it will do nearly as much as Skyfall it will probably make closer to the two Bond movies before Skyfall so somewhere around the $600 million dollar range.

Pixels isn't included as the figures only include films released upto the end of June.

Sony is fine they set most of there films for the end of year (Spectre, Hotel Transyvania 2) as with JW and AoU it's not worth competing.

Paramount, Fox and WB have also had mostly low returns so far this year.

WB actually has had a good year so far this year they are third highest in marketshare and Fox is fourth highest.  Paramount hasn't had a very good year so far but they are still doing better then Sony they are 5th highest so far and what should be their highest grossing movie of the year is being released today.

Hard to call it a good year when they haven't had a film break $500 million WW.

And the boxoffice mojo studio figures you linked to only counts US gross so is worthless.

This thread is about domestic numbers plus the link is not worthless all you have to do is click on a individual movie to see the world wide gross.  Also none of WB movies this year had a huge budget so none of them breaking $500 million world wide is not a huge deal.  WB next big budget movie is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and that is not coming out until next year.

"Worthless" means it has no value...

Sorry, my friend. But the USA BO has A LOT of value when discussing Box Office.

Universal being the big success story, look at their big five releases.

1. Jurassic World - 4th entry in established franchise
2. Furious 7 - 7th entry in established franchise
3. Minions - Spin off / 3rd entry in established franchise
4. Pitch Perfect 2 - 2nd entry
5. Fifty Shade of Grey - Original film, but based off hugely popular book

Now, I give them credit that JW and F7 finished well above even high expectations, but really nothing here screams "risk" in terms of a new idea with a big budget.

That's not good. But Spectre will make more than a billion dollars so that should help them.

Don't think it will make nearly as much plus with the Bond movies most of the profits go to other companies besides Sony its produced by Eon Productions which isn't owned by Sony its a co production with MGM which is not 100% owned by Sony and once it hits home video all the rights belong to 20th Century Fox.

Oh, that's sad then. But when Skyfall came out and made over $1bn in 2012, Sony said that it helped be profitable in that quarter.
