Another Monster Hunter spinoff is more likely than MH5.

| Azuren said: It's a toss up. On one hand, Capcom only supports the clear winner, and right now that's definitely the PS4. On the other, they aim for PS2 graphics to avoid actually upgrading their game, which makes 3DS the right choice. |
This is certainly a big argument, because capcom knows that a ps4 version of monster hunter means a lot more work and at the end is the question if it's worth the effort. But i think they are planinig something regarding MH

Possible, but unlikely.. I think the next one will still be on Nintendo handhelds

Except Monster Hunter stopped being a failure outside of Japan and the rest of the world has caught on to how awesome it is, meaning that Capcom will now take that into consideration. They want money, regardless of where they get it, so a PS4 MH could easily happen. |
Still, even outside Japan 3DS has the biggest install base and Capcom already has proof MH sells on 3DS - inside and outside japan.
PS4 has smaller install base and Capcom has no signs to whatever.
Think how long PS2 got big games.

They already have another MH to the 3DS coming, so the next should really be in another system, be it the PS4 as the current best choice now, or maybe the NX/3DS sucessor in the future, but it's time to move on. |
3DS has sold more this year than previous (surely because of the new model) and MH still sells good. It will still need some time until sales on 3DS will drop off.
Definitely not ruling out the possibility when it's an attractive idea to put JRPGs on the PS4 to sell it in the west since it's a proven customer base that will pay attention to such games on a console but MH5 could already be a secured exclusive depending on how well greased Capcom's fingers are ...
Last announcement of capcom...
Capcom posted its quarterly financial results today, focusing on the three months that ended on June 30th, and they were definitely positive, with both sales and operating income increasing year on year. This was due to repeat sales of console games (called “consumer” by many Japanese companies) and a new pachislo machine.
The company now plans to strengthen its console business and its online game business. We also learn that Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is now at over 3.9 million units sold. Sales outside of Japan are also a segment that the company intends to nurture, with Resident Evil Revelations 2 and Devil may Cry 4: Special Edition named as a contributing factors.
Ironic how Tri on Wii was the result of high development costs for PS3, and that game was the turning point for the franchise. It outsold almost if not all previous console MH games, did good in the West, paved the way for 3G on 3DS, and now the franchise feels at home with Nintendo.
I wouldn't mind a MH game on PS4, although I'm not a fan of paying for online play.
Tri on Wii is still my most played game ever though, so a subscription to play online would be well worth for a MH game alone.
~ I hope it stays with Nintendo ~

An install base that isn't rising as fast as the PS4's install base.
And PS2 isn't a good comparison. That wasn't a console, it was a gaming phenomenon (whereas the Wii was less a gaming phenomenon and more of a cultural fad, as shown by the game selection).
