That would be the ideal situation, but lets be real people: 1) Nintendo will never release a 300$+ console again, rumors sugest that they are aiming at a 150$ NX, you dont have to be a tech wiz to know that the console will be utter shit spec wise. Can you imagine Nintendo pulling a Sony with the Ps3 launching the console at 600$? Like the Chris Brown song "These Hoes aint Loyal", the console would sell less than a thousand. Big difference between both fan bases.
2) Nintendo exclusives dont require any kind of processing power, hence the size of their games (1-2 gigs).
3) If Nintendo pulls a Wii U again, you can expect that a big chunk of the console price will be a gimmick like the gamepad, that even Nintendo ignores into their games.
4) if Nintendo wants to be competitive, they have to release a equivalent console powerwise with Sony and Microsodt, but how? They either wait for the Ps5 to be revealed and launch a similar console, OR they launch again mid gen and be obsolete in a couple of years and be left alone by third parties.
5) Either way, at the end of the day these people have to vote with their wallets and actually spend MONEY on games. There is no secret about it. |
Well... Being that Sony has their generations that last a decade to recoup and make profit, Microsoft is obviously following behind them like a dog. This leaves room for Nintendo to get more competitive with less risk with the NX by investing in similar hardware at a cheaper cost once they've gained a larger market to consume said parts.
They can get the third party. The question is....how soon? Its not really about being the ideal to tell you the truth.

Yes, or games like Just Dance which still sell millions and is one of the VERY few franchises that still releases on the old Wii. |
So 3rd parties should keep making Wii games like 'Just Dance' even though the 'casual' gamers are not on the WiiU? Games like Just Dance, Rayman Legends, Lego, Sonic, Disney, Skylanders, etc?
But Nintnedo is receiving 3rd party support is other ways. In fact 8 of the games on that list were partially or fully developed by a 3rd party dev.
What i'm hoping for with NX is more joint initiatives with 3rd party dev's working on Nintendo games. Continued growth in indie content. And more partnerships on excluvie 3rd party content as seen in Devil's 3rd and Bayonetta 2. Can't say i care whether or not nx gets port of Xbone,PC, PS4 games. Lets face it people ain't going to buy those games on NX anyways.

Interesting...a lot of eastern devs are there it seems on the third party end. There is a problem, though....and I could tell you why...but I just gave you hint.

You're going to suggest there is a problem that AAA american dev's aren't on board?

So the reason they can't get 3rd party games is because all those third party games that aren't being release aren't getting on the charts?
Or are you talking about all those major titles that released on Wii U day-and-date with advertising actually mentioning the Wii U version, that struggled only on Wii U? All zero of them?

I'll give you a pass on that one. Its actually western devs in general unless Nintendo owns them. Secondly, the OP was onto something when he gave notice to the amount of games that were third party published.
Nintendo can get third party games. Even the Wii U was getting a fair amount before it became obvious about 4-5 months in that it wasn't going to be some kind of sales hit.
The bigger issue is audience. They can't get the audience for those games. They've become far too closely associated as a kids and casual brand for too long that they MS and Sony can just dominate them for mindshare among the people that buy the big ticket third party titles.
They haven't had a blockbuster game for the 16-35 year old demographic since GoldenEye ... that's 18 whopping years ago. And I mean some of that is Nintendo's fault, they have all the money and resources in the world to at least make one IP that is a big gun with older male consumers, but they choose not to go after that and when they do they go with very niche ideas like Fatal Frame.
Nintendo's Japanese division domiantes the entire company since Iwata took over, so that it's painfully easy for Sony/MS to walk all over them in the West too.
