Likely an announcement/reveal in late 2018, early 2019.
Because both Xbox and PlayStation chose the same base platforms, backwards compatibility should be more than possible with newer, upgraded hardware so we could see a new generation come in that from day one has 100% B/C for gen 8 titles, with better performance of said titles, which smooths the transition between generations considerably.
I do not believe for a second that 4K will be a goal for the next generation beyond media playback and the odd indie title, definitely not a goal for major releases.
Lol. Current gen barely does 1080p and PS4 is only one who is doing consistantly which many issues. Good luck to expect 4k system at $399 unless companies wants to take huge losses.
I will be happy with 1080p 60 fps / 1440p 60 fps in next gen.
I remember having this discussion on this site before. The consensus was that it is very probable the console will run games at 4K, if not 4K, then 1440p or 1600p downscaled to 1080p, but only if the console releases after 2018.I honestly agreed with that, but recently I don't think the adoption rate of 4k is going to be big enough for that to happen.
Also you DO need AA at 4k if you want the best IQ, while 4K greatly reduces the need for AA compared to 1080p, at that resolution there is still some pretty visible jaggies while moving, I use DSR at 120%(5K) and Sweetfx's SMAA at default settings to have a jaggy-less crystal clear picture.I do believe though, that if consoles ran games at 4k they wouldn't use AA and would instead use those resources on something else.
PS5 will be marketed as 4k console, whether it's the truth does not matter. There will be a lot of resolution shenanigans like dynamic solutions and upscaling. People will argue "you can't see" the difference and so on. AAA-games will abandon 1080p since it would be marketing suicide. 30fps will unfortunately stay also.
Let's say PS5 launches 2019, PS6 could be then 2024. Now I cannot see how 1080p can stay relevant till 2024. PS5 will be pretty much like PS3/360 when HD was pushed into the market. A few years too soon but it will happen.
I cannot imagine toilet-free life.
Kebabs have a unique attribute compared to other consumables. To unlock this effect you need to wolf down a big ass kebab really fast, like under 10 minutes or so and wait for the effect to kick in. If done correctly your movements should feel unbelievably heavy to the point where you literally cannot move at all.

Not true, OLED will be falling in price very soon. http://www.ansto.gov.au/AboutANSTO/MediaCentre/News/ACS067653

What do you think about something like 2560x2160? That would be some ~18% more of a pixel jump from current 1920x1080 than from 720p to 1080p jump we had in this gen.
I find anamorphic resolutions giving better results when upscaling due to one axis being rendered natively, but I'm wondering if you had any prior experience with such approach.

resolution bump would cost more than a good AA and provide little in the way of visual difference on console besides if youre not pushing for supersampling you can put more into the environment and complexity.
next gen will be 1080p still
PS4 can already run games at 4k/30fps, devs have already stated all they need is Sony to unlock it in firmware. A PS5 without 4K as the standard for SCEWWS games would be the death of the PS brand. When people buy a new PlayStation they expect a quantum leap over the previous product. Releasing a next product that is same as the last will put the PS5 in the same shoes as Vita.
I expect the PS5 to release in 2020, with 4K games, a new wireless Project Morpheus + Updated Camera & Motion Capturing equipment. There will also be more VR games during the PS5's life span than, traditional 4k games.
