Consenting ADULTS should be able to sleep with whoever they want and be in a relationship with other consenting adults. I don't have a real issue with that.

Morally, the world is more progressive today than ever.

People always clamour for the past, but really ... that was a time when women were burned at the stake for witchcraft (which basically meant anything some random guy wanted to pin on them), a good family Saturday out was watching someone get hung to death or have their intestines ripped out in the town square, and where if you were born in the wrong skin color you were subject to inhumane slavery and life long suffering.

Yeah, 21st century isn't all that bad by comparison.

Uur progress and rise in comfort levels and overall safety in Western society has caused us to get upset and/or fret over increasingly pitiful subjects and issues. Seeing the enormous hate towards something as basic as someone getting the right to get married shows this for sure.

People need to play more video games and spend less time whining about things that doesn't affect them in any way.

Ramen to that.

I'm sure we had this debate when slavery was abolished as well and I know we had it when they stopped segregation in schools and on public transport.
I find it both sad and funny that many of the same people who scream that we need to take down IS for their lack of morals, which includes throwing gay people off of buildings as punishment, are also the ones who are outraged at same-sex marriage.

People who label themselves patriots are usually and ironically the ones damaging their country the most. Likening polygamy, prostitution, pedophilia and incest to same-sex marriage shows what level we're still on and it shows that we have a long way to go.

Perhaps we should just revoke womens rights to vote, dismantle Amnesty's anti-torture programs and start segregating the population again and then we'll let some wise men with holy books and assault rifles take charge and set things straight (pun very much intended).

TBH I do not find patriotism wrong, when it is present in natural doses. If anything, a healthy amount of patriotism is only for the best, as it helps the competitive nature of the world.

If anything it all boils down to negative propaganda. Everything does. Untill you dont trample on an avrege joe's basic human rights, IMO there is no reason why a certain behaviour shouldent be allowed. A true patriot, will allways see trough the smoke and mirror, so he will allways know what is wrong or right. At least as an idea, this should work.

OT: intelectual evolution is usually allways perceded by people who opose them. And then change happenes. This is true with the legalization of soft drugs and the right for gay couple to marry

Yesterday America finally made Same-sex marriage legal in all fifty states and hence removing power from the fourteen states which did not allow same-sex marriage.

However it’s no secret that Same-Sex marriage was taboo and considered morally wrong just a couple of years/decades ago by many and any same-sex act was considered a “Sin” even by those that did not follow any religion. However nowadays this Taboo on Same-Sex marriage has been lifted and thanks to that certain people are now also advocating the legistlation of other practices/acts which up to now are generally considered Taboo. In order of popularity these include:

 1. Polygamy

 2. Marijuana  ( Old source but many have brought this up on social media and Youtube )

 3. Prostitution

 4. Incest

( Not all of them have a source since they range from very wanted to much less wanted but all of them have been mentioned in social media and therefore there are minorities which do indeed want these practices/acts to be legalized )

As a normal human being you are more than likely to find that at least one of these practices/acts go against your moral beliefs whether you believe in a religion or not. Therefore my questions are:

 1. Do you think that thanks to big steps taken to legalize practices which were previously Taboo, that the practices/acts mentioned above are much more likely to be legalized?

 2. Do you personally think that morally we as a society as from now onwards if we do legalize such acts, are heading in the wrong direction? Therefore do you want to see the acts mentioned above be legalized?

To answer your questions:

1. I don't think this sets a precendent for legalizing all other practices listed.  Beside Polygamy I don't really think they are related.

2. As a society things have been moving in the right direction.  It works both ways; some things have gotten more liberal, some less.  There are a lot of things that were accepted in the past and we now consider them morally unacceptable and harmful or illegal.  We humans know more about ourselves now than we did 50, 100 or 2000 years ago so we're better able to decide what is healthy, what's unhealthy, and what doesn't really matter.

A same-sex marriage doesn't really hurt anyone.  It's really better and healthier for gay people to be in a stable relationship, rather than sleep around - same as it is for straight people.

Civil rights is an infinitely expanding movement. The same goes for other progressive movements such as feminism which is in its third wave.

These movements are greedy and don't stop at a particular societal and cultural win. Today they touch on gay rights. Tomorrow they will touch on pedophilia like you said. No one knows how to stop them, not even their own advocates. This thing will go too far. The progressives have no end goal and no finite morality.

How can you liken same sex marriage to pedophilia? Such pig ignorance and bigotry is what is wrong with today's society. My eyes and ears are bleeding .

I don´t think there is any law in any civilized cowntry that forbids concensual sexual relationship even if the subjects are first degree relatives.

Well except for Canada, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Sweden, the UK, most states of the US and many others...

Well, you are right.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laws_regarding_incest

I knew that here in Brazil you can have concentual sex with any one older than 15 years old, prostitution is in a gray areal thought. Restrictions were only against marriages between brothers.

Well, I think that is the next taboo to fell in the next couple of decades. There is no reasenable bases to punish with imprisoment people only because they have sex with a relative.

And even forbiden them of having children because of genetic risk is arbitrary. Will we start profiling people with risk of genetics deseases and paring them with partners with best featness?

The moral compass of humanity has moved back and forth throughout history. Evidence shows that in pre-Christian Roman and Greek times, homosexuality was accepted, as was pedophilia (noting that at a time the avg human lifespan was around 45-50yr). There has been a steady broadening of what is accepted by society over the past few hundred years, but to think its a never ending trend is silly. The rise of IS and its affect on previously moderate Arab states is an example right now where the moral compass can swing violently backwards.

As to your point: 1) I wouldn't do myself but don't have a huge problem with though there would need to be a lot of law changes to support, 2) support in theory but would need a lot of controls around it like smoking, and should have an elevated age restriction (25 IMO) as evidence shows cannabis use can damage a developing brain (which finishes at around 25yr of age).

3) I have no problem with at all, I find it amusing that some people support point 2 because 'its their bodies and it doesn't harm others' but then don't support point 3. Its their bodies and if they choice to use it to make money, and it doesn't harm others who concent to it then again what is wrong with it? Legalising prostitution empowers those who choice to practise it, by lifting it out of the black market you can regulate it, making those who practise it less vulnerable to those who would take advantage of them. New Zealand has legalised prostitution, the workers are protected by the law, get regular medical checks to ensure health is maintained, and as a result its clean, taxed and controlled.

4) People who think that pedophilia and homosexuality are somehow related are completely missing the whole thing that makes pedophilia wrong. Pedophilia is wrong because consent can't be granted by someone who doesn't have the mental maturity to evaluate all aspects of the decision. An adult of the same sex can do those things. I can't think of anyone who is actually advocating for this, there will likely be arguments over what the age of consent should be (16, 18, etc) but actual legalised pedophilia should never be supported, because it breaks the fundamental tenet of a social contract as children can't give consent due to not having the mental maturity to properly evaluate the decision. What I would like to see is a way for pedophiles to self-report and actually be supported rather than treated just as evil predators. You can't help who or what you are attracted to, all you can do is refrain from acting on those impulses, and getting support to deal with those would do far more good than demonising them so that they will never self report and get the help they need until they've abused some kid. Definitely for those pedophiles that do abuse children there can be no tolerance, but the current system almost sets them up to fail.

Summary: You can't look at a trend without understanding the differences between each step. And there is no guarantee the trend will continue. So just focus on each step and whether its right, don't reject a 'right' decision because you are worried about a 'wrong' decision 50 years down the track when they are independent of each other.

"Minorities want to have as much power as I do.... This is unacceptable"

Just look at Canada if you want to know where the states will be in 20 years, first we made gay marriage legal a decade earlier than we made prostitution semi-legal, pot is next

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

After Metroid Prime Federation Force announcement I believe humanity is morally lost. For good.

we are heading to utopia...
where no one will have to suffer
where everyone will be provided for etc etc etc
all once we give up our freedom and responsibility
