Forums - Nintendo - Reggie: We anticipated that fans would have a negative reaction to Metriod Prime: Federation Force

The presentation was horrendous but after seeing some gameplay, I'm more willing to give the game a chance.

I can't believe that the big heads at NOJ are in touch enough to have considered this a possibility...

They foresaw it, Reggie said that "we" (Nintendo) knew people wouldn't take the game with open arms, but we are releasing the game anyway.

Nintendo fans just need to wait for the next Nintendo Direct when Nintendo will explain why fans are wrong by not liking the game and explain to fans how much they want this Metroid.

If they knew it why did they make it?

Remember the outcry for WInd Waker how everyone hated how it looked. Demanded it be canceled and give us a real Zelda like the tech demo? Then when people played it the game was amazing. People who played Fed Force been positive about it.

Maybe the new look was an artistic decision. Artist vision > fans expectations IMO. This train of thought will net Artists no money, but they were truth to their vision and didn't sell out. If the reason for the chibi look is not artistic in nature, but an attempt to appeal to a wider audience then...

O.o

Wtf? I don't even know what to say... it's getting beyond ridiculous now.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

well if they knew what we wanted and provided Federation instead then it is pretty easy to see what type of reaction the fans would have. But honestly they also thought we would get over it once we saw more but to me that is not the case at all. I for one won't be getting it

I think there's a legitimate possibility he's speaking for Nintendo of America...

Perhaps he really is speaking for Nintendo as a whole, or perhaps it's all just damage control...

Whatever the case may really be, I can find solace in the fact that they acknowledge the demand for Metroid/Samus...

Have a nice day...

It really feels like all Reggie's doing at this point is making things worse.

For those who did not click the link, here's the entirety of the quote:

"In terms of opportunities for improvement… there are games where you need to have hands-on time to really appreciate. Certainly, Metroid Prime: Federation Force is one of those types of games. We anticipated that consumers would say “Where’s Samus?” and “Where’s my traditional Metroid Prime game?” We anticipated that. As I walked the floor and talked to people who were playing Blast Ball, they’re loving it. They’re excited about it, they’re excited about the controls. One of our challenges at Nintendo, always, is how do we communicate the charm and appeal of a game to people who don’t get a chance to play it? It’s always a challenge. I say with Federation Force, we may have fallen a little short in communicating what the charm is of that game. Good news: we’ll have lots of other opportunities to address that and get people to experience it hands-on. We think they’re gonna come away in the end feeling like it’s a lot of fun."

What he's saying is 'give the game a chance'. I agree, give the game a chance. Every game deserves a chance.

Maybe if they do have a classic Metroid game in development they should have shown some of it and THEN shown this FF one.

Fans would be like: "we have a new Metroid! There's that other Metroid game as well that doesn't interest me much but oh well, a new Metroid!"

Could have soften the blow perhaps. As I said before in this forum, given the fact that Nintendo fans miss on a lot of third party games it feels like Nintendo must deliver with their every release to try an compensate, so the outcry is a little understandable.

Maybe next Metroid is a NX release and that is why they won't show anything for now, who knows? Possibly Nintendo is already abandoning the WiiU ship for a shiny new NX one. But no way to know for sure until next e3/new WiiU games announcements in the coming months.
