Disclaimer: Like many here, I am primarily a Sony fan, but having grown up on nintendo consoles, i've always had a soft spot for them and wanted them to succeed. I care about Nintendo as much as the next guy.

"No - Whats ****ing wrong with you?!"

Reggie is, and always will be a loveable folk. But it seems a lot of what I dislike about nintendo is a lot of what I dislike about him as a business man. He cannot adapt to the times. Gaming is as inclusive now as ever. Everyone is a gamer (unless you're a boring sod) and many, many dabble in videogames. This industry can only grow aslong as the population is growing. Inclusion and adaption are two extremely important ideas when trying to be successful in this industry. The shift in mentality has changed from generation-7 to generation-8 whereby these companies within the industry aren't providing you a product, but are rather expected to provide a service. We live in the internet age. Anything you say can and will be used against you, even years from now. Hell, look at that gif above, and how usable it is years after the man himself said it. An image is expected of you now, one that portrays confidence and humbleness and one that avoids arrogance. You're supposed to sell your business. You're supposed to tell others why you are better than others in the industry. It's competition, it's healthy and it only results in better products for everyone. It's why the internet clamoured Adam Orth, it's why Don Mattrick was laughed at. And they really only made one mistake, both mistakes spilled of arrogance however. "Deal with it" and "Can't buy an XB1, buy a 360 instead" Anyone who is an xbox fan can agree that the company is far better now for many reasons under the guise of better leadership, primarily Phil Spencer. Phil is a gamer, he loves games and he can openly speak highly about his likeness for competitors products. Satya Nadella doesn't slap his bum anytime he says The Last of Us is an excellent game, yet he still is a competitive businessman, encouraging sales of his products, but doing so without discouraging sales or reputation of his competitors. Reggie is not like that. Many things can be attributed to nintendos failure this gen, or rather lack of home-console sales, however, you are not making it any better by painting yourself as an arrogant prick who believes anything he owns is gold and the rest of the world is mere dirt. He plays a game of 'my penis is bigger than yours' to put extremely. In an age where the competition is so likeable, so successful and so humble, this anti-competition and also anti-consumer attitude he portrays is destroying nintendo's image. Reality: Wii U sales are bad, third party have more or less abandoned nintendo. Nintendo's first party output isn't doing the lack of consistent games justice and your big E3 digital event, primarily targeted at the Americans, has been severely ridiculed. Rumours swirling that you are holding supply of amiibos to increase demand, let alone more amiibos are being announced than games it seems, for a games company. Nintendo's reputation is lingering with the core community with your youtube and twitch policies, two sites that other companies have benefited from the growth of. Reggie needs to leave and let some fresh meat take over the business, the same way Microsoft let fresh meat restructure the entertainment division for the better, the same (team of) fresh meat who got sony's act back on track during the transitional years from ps3->ps4. I can't dislike Phil Spencer, I cant dislike Jack Tretton, Shawn Layden, Adam Boyes, Shu. They all love gaming and even though there is a community of people who may not like their services, they don't feel the need to attack them or exercise how big their ego is. |

Reggie - " We Don't Announce Games 5 or 6 Years in Advance Like Other Companies " The kind of comment that makes it hard to distinguish you from a random youtube commenter. Games have different lengths of development, a head of a company should know that. For example, one of the years biggest titles, Bloodborne, was announced and released within 8 months, a very short lifecycle. Haven't we been waiting 3/4 years for Zelda U? Wasn't the wii u released more than a year later after it was announced, that it was 'pre-released' at two E3's. Reggie - "Virtual Reality 'Isn't fun, and it's not social. It's just tech" Reggie - "Iwata Didn't Apologize Over Nintendo's E3 Direct - News" Reggie - "PS4 & Xb1 have a lot of shared content and no exclusives" |
There's many more articles of things he's said which I could bring up but it's 2am, I'm pissed and i'm tired. Hope you read!
