Forums - Nintendo - Criterion was approached to make a launch F-Zero U (UPDATE: It was just an e-mail)

Since Criterion is part of EA, I doubt they would have been allowed to create a Wii U game after Febuary 2013, where EA stopped all projects for the Wii U.

Why they didn't ask another developer afterwards is another question, but it might be that they where looking into studios with experience into racing games, and there ain't too many out there who do so. And the withdrawal of Ubisoft, Atari and Activision surely didn't help, either.

Considering how Fast Racing Neo looked in the Treehouse, I'd say they should ask Shin'en since both games are fairly similar in their concepts

That's right, didn't think about it, thanks! This was before the "unprecedented partnership" broke down and crashed, obviously between 2011 and 2012 EA would not support the project anymore.

Shinen can't do an F-Zero game, they are too small and want to stay that way.

I cant accept a F-Zero made by Western people.

It's either Nintendo, Sega or nothing!

That sucks :/

I'm sure 14 years ago there were people saying they couldn't accept a Metroid game made by Western people too.

oh snap, well said!

That's really disappointing..

Too bad. Criterion is a pretty good developer.

Don't you mean was since Criterion as we know it pretty much doesn't exist anymore.

Would've been a great game. Criterion is an amazing developer!

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Well that explains the feeling of the Wii U's launch lineup missing a good showpiece. I wonder if Nintendo had other projects like this fall apart early on? I mean, the EA relations imploding wasn't the only bad thing to happen early on, that's for sure.

Couldn't Nintendo like, you know, make it themselves like they used to?

Should have been Sega. The Gamecube game was the second best F-Zero after the original imo.
