Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto: We're Not Interested In High End Specs (Hardware)

Not powerfull and unique... Seems like WiiU2 and they getting rid of 3rd parties and being DoA, very sad if turns out true.

I don't think it will match the PS4, let alone exceed it.

Agreed.

i don't agree. Nintendo in 2017 can build a much more powerful console than ps4 for less than $300 and sell it for profit. unless their next gimmick is going to be expensive like the tablet is.

are you guys expeting a expensive gimmick again this time around?

No, but I expect Nintendo to be Nintendo and exhibit a fetishistic obsession with low power consumption, cool running, and small casing.

I would be extremely surprised if their next system didn't atleast match Xbox One/PS4. With some tweaking current sub $100 AMD PC apu's can already get close to the current consoles. By the time NX comes out there should be off the shelve APU's that atleast match Xbox One and are more power efficient to boot.

They will use the same mobile CPU/GPU (system on chip) for both the portable and home device I'd bet, the home version will just be a bit more powerful.

Nintendo will love this because the console will be able to be very small, very low power, and very quiet ... it will could very easily be smaller than even the Wii and run with less electricity.

The Nvidia Shield console with the Tegra X1 processor (a mobile chip that will eventually be in tablets) is probably a good idea of what to expect:

500 GFLOPS of power with 4GB of RAM ... for $199.99, today. Probably exactly the ballpark Nintendo likes.

true.  problem with Nintendo if they have NX underdevelopment and just a little bit increase of power and graphics from the WII U and doesn't atleast match X1 level.  then i think the doomsayers would be take over the board. lol.

technology is getting better and 1080p is the standard and Nintendo should be able to know that their core gamers are dwindling and won't sell that much if they keep themselves way out from X1 and PS4 specs.

I can't see how NX would lauch with weaker hardware than PS4. PS4 was far from high-end when it launched and sold at $399 without major loss. Now if NX released holiday 2016, Nintendo should be able to offer slightly more powerful hardware at $199 while taking small loss (around $50/NX). I also believe it will be backwards compatible with WiiU and makes the transition to NX easier.

Crossgen window is growing and NX needs to be able to hop on that train when PS4/X2 launches. It didn't happen with WiiU since it bombed straight outta gate.

Or...

totally out-of-the-box innovation

I cannot imagine toilet-free life.

Kebabs have a unique attribute compared to other consumables. To unlock this effect you need to wolf down a big ass kebab really fast, like under 10 minutes or so and wait for the effect to kick in. If done correctly your movements should feel unbelievably heavy to the point where you literally cannot move at all.

They can but they won't.

NX Console will be largely built off portable/mobile components too I'd bet. Their job listing for a next-generation hardware designer specified they're looking for someone with experience with low power SOC components.

Another tip off that what they're working on is a "fusion" type of platform of some kind.

I think it will be more portable than traditional console. It's just that portables nowadays have enough power to pump out decent looking graphics even on the television. Just don't expect like PS4 level and certainly not PS5 level.

unless they strike gold like they did with the wii, i, personaly, don't see a bright future for nintendo. maybe the strike that gold again, who knows...

It can easily not be as powerful as a PS4 especially if its using mobile components, which I suspect. They will do that so they can share the same hardware with portable. Kinda smart because they will be able to get an even better deal on the chips by ordering so many of them.

Nintendo is really digging their own grave right now. Cant they see the success of PS4 and XONE!!!! They need to CHANGE!!!!

Did you know that Nintendo is projecting a profit of $300m for the current fiscal year? Meanwhile, Sony is projecting $400m for their gaming division. Microsoft doesn't make projections, but since they continue to tread water and have to undercut the PS4 in order to keep up, they are likely to come in behind Nintendo. Well, it would be crazy if they could match Sony, considering by how much the Xbox One loses in sales to the PS4.

So no need to panic.

nintendo projections,..  lol.

in an earnings release, president Satoru Iwata explained that the company now expects to sell 2.8 million Wii U consoles by the end of March, down from original estimates of 9 million, while 3DS projections have also been revised downwards from 18 million console sales to 13.5 million

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/01/17/nintendo-cuts-wii-u-sales-forecast-from-9-million-to-28-million

Nintendo's net sales projection dropped from ¥920 billion to ¥590 billion, which converts as $8.8 billion to $5.6 billion, respectively. Rather than posting a net profit of ¥55 billion ($530 million) for the fiscal year, the company is bracing itself for a net loss of ¥25 billion ($240 million).
