Nintendo should take its time on the developement of the NX. Have a lot of games and release them regularly to avoid droughts. They shouldn't rush things.

Also, I'm sure Nintendo knows that, once the NX is announced and showed to the world, the WiiU sales are going to plummet like a rock. During that period of time they are barely going to sell a console, and that is going to hurt Nintendo finantially. So once announced, the system has to come out as quickly as possible, or making a WiiU pricecut so radical Nintendo gets ridd of all its stock. Announcing the system on E3 and releasing it during holydays is the least harmful way to do it.

Who's rushing?

NX has been in development for awhile. Couple years ago they switched all internal development to NX games and put their other games out for 2nd / 3rd parties to work/complete.

Right now I'd say Nintendo should wait to both announce and release NX. They should announce it early 2017 and release it later that year. A later release means it can have better tech and differentiate itself better from One/4. It will also compete better with Two/5.

Of course, if Wii U is truly in the pooper and NX isn't using cutting edge tech, then perhaps a 2016 release makes sense.

But either way I don't think a long delay from reveal/release is smart, and they also need to make sure they have must-have content upon release.

They've already said they will share more details in 2016.

It's already been announced if we're being technical about it.

1. Most people who will buy an NX will never own a Wii U, so the "consumer trust" argument flies out the window. If it didn't effect the Xbox, GBA, etc, it definitely won't effect the worse selling Wii U's successor.

2. They most definitely are not. E3 made that explicitly clear. That argument is out the window too.

3. Doesn't matter. New era. Also, that's not a benefit.

4. Also not a benefit. Just another reason to ditch the Wii U last year.

5. There will be 2017 games. NX games. Hence 2016's vacancy of any relevant games not already announced since January of 2013.

NX. 2016. It's happening.

I know what they have done - and most likely will do - just saying what they should do.

Well the other thing is what does Nintendo have to sell for holiday 2016 anyway?

I'm sorry but Wii U is just a dud, it's never going to have good sales, I don't care if they make 10 Zelda games for it. So that's not the answer.

3DS is declining rapidly as is, by fall 2016 it will probably be down to 5-6 million in yearly shipments. That's not good.

Unless Nintendo is comfortable riding out an entire year with their lowest hardware shipments since like 1987 ... I don't see how they just write off 2016 like that.

I know. But their system has to be relevant for over five or six years, and it will have to compete with the PS4 and the PS5. Nintendo needs to sell around minimum 60-70m hardware units between handheld and home console if they want to be comfortably profitable. If they are going to go with the Fusion project, they'll need to do a ton of things to avoid failing spectacularly:

-Have their games work well on both HH and HC.

-Get powerful specs that can compete in price with PS4 and XBone, and at the sae time don't alienate 3rd parties. Specially careful with the handheld, because they should be able to play home consoles titles well enough to be worth get both hardwares.

-Convince people this idea won't hurt gameplay.

-Convince 3rdparties that the NX will sell well and their games could sell well.

-Convince the customers that the NX will have enough 3rd party support, or at leas, the ones that could matter to the Nintendo audience.

-Convince people outside of their userbase to give the system a go.

-Avoid droughts by developing enough games and releasing them in an intelligent way.

-Avoid another "WiiU is a peripheral".

-Combinate well enough their new areas with the NX (the mobile games and the QoL), but not alienating the hardcore userbase. Maybe Nintendo could give their mobile games for free on their systems, and having to buy them on mobiles. You'd have an incentive to have at least one of the NX parts, and hardcore fans wouldn't mind free games.

These are a lot of things, and I'm sure there are other things I didn't think about. So like I said, no rushing.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

sure they show it to some but not to all theres too many of them.. also the word gets out and you basically have a year and a half of free advertising.

Wii U advertising was not positive. And didn't get many games.

why wii u failed in so many ways is another topic.

And part of them still applies in this thread. There are not benefits on announcing next year and release until holiday 2017 outside of some fans dreams that won't provide the games they expect. All the big teams are now on NX and E3 showed that or make believe.

If Nintendo really wants to end all this speculation they should announce big hitter (to fans) as soon as possible, not until next E3.

BTW, can anyone tell me what new big games for Wii were announced at E3 2011?

It really doesn't make any kind of sense for them to announce a new console in early 2015 and then wait until late 2017 for a release; they would effectively destroy the Wii U's chances of a decent 2016 and 2017. Everything they've done and said in the past 6 months indicates strongly that they're ready to move on and have no proper plans for the Wii U.
It makes sense from a business perspective; regardless of fans claiming that it's stupid to piss them off, there is no reason to keep trying to roll a broken wheel uphill in the mud they way they have been doing.

Literally the only arguments left against an imminent release of a successor to the Wii U are "That would piss off the fans" and "They haven't said they are doing this and there are still games coming for the Wii U". This whole "They'll SEGA themselves" mentality is nonsense, if they do nothing about the current situation, that will be the only sure path to the grave.

I agree. It was a terrible mistake to announce the Wii U at E3 2011 and release until 2012. The problem is that the actual Nintendo is inefficient and takes a lot of time to do a game, that sometimes, feel more archaic or limited than older games.

Thankfully, the Fusion idea can speed up and solve part of those problems.
