Right now I'd say Nintendo should wait to both announce and release NX. They should announce it early 2017 and release it later that year. A later release means it can have better tech and differentiate itself better from One/4. It will also compete better with Two/5.
Of course, if Wii U is truly in the pooper and NX isn't using cutting edge tech, then perhaps a 2016 release makes sense.
But either way I don't think a long delay from reveal/release is smart, and they also need to make sure they have must-have content upon release.
