Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto: games nowadays look so realistic that they all look the same

I disagree with him, though. That's like saying all cartoony games look the same.

Sometimes that is true.

I mean, obviously some "realistic games" look the same when compared if you cherry-pick, but like estebxx said some posts earlier, the gorgeous art style of a lot of those "realistic games" is very, very different.

If thats the case he's at fault

Rainbow 6, Ghost Recon, Fifa, COD

Vs

Batman Arkham Knight, Halo 5, Fable legends, No Mans Sky, Street Fighter 5, Horizon, Unravel, Tomb Raider Legend, Metal Gear Solid V, Kingdom Hearts, Deux Ex: Humandkind divided.

If we look at games which have recently passed. Destiny, Driveclub, Little Big Planet, Sunset Overdrive, Project Spark, Ori and the Blind Forest, The Order 1886, Dragon Age Inquisition, Witcher 3, Bloodborne. He's definitely being selective.

Yes it is his fault, but at the same time if you are busy individual, who I imagine really wants to retire sooner than later, he doesn't get to see those titles, because they just aren't being advertised and put in front of him like the bigger third party titles are (I think out of Nintendo he most likely has the most pressure on him at times). Also some of your selection doesn't help either, because games like The Order, Dragon Age, Witcher don't really break that realism mold of looking different enough if you just look at them quickly.

I can understand his statement based on what I percieve to be his perception, and I can also understand as a gamer. I still love realistic games games, I also love games driven by unique art styles.

The thing I wrote in brackets is the reason I would defend Miyamoto but I would want Reggie sacked. Reggie isn't doing much in his power to remedy the situation.

Phill Spencer and Yoshida play a lot of games and a lot from their competitors... a President of company being completely ignorant about competitors output isn't very good.

Miyamoto isn't in that authority that Phil and Yoshida is. Miyamoto is just a huge developer name, that is incharge of Nintendo EAD (Hence the quality of those titles).

I'm saying that a lot of animes and cartoons look very closely one to the other on the aethestic side... but they have so many more elements that they having a similar pallete shouldn't be a problem...

Almost all photographies are made from real life and through artistic vision you don't think they are all the same... for me that applies to realistic and artistic visual in games as well.

So he would have even more time to look outside his window right?

He may not be the CEO, but he, Regie and Iwata talks as the top on Nintendo... So one would expect that he keeps a minimum of attention to other companies... or if he doesn't have enough knowledge about it, just keep shut and don't look silly by saying completely false things.

I agree to a point, but that doesn't help the case for Star Fox all that much. Sure it's a different style, but it's still not really up to par. It's very uneven and looks flat right now. No matter the art style, making the game feel even and adding depth seems necessary.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

I think he is forced into the light (remember he was expressing his honest opinion in an interview).

Citing "realistic games all look the same" does not explain why Star Fox looks like an uprezzed port of StarFox 64...

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Maybe... but sometimes he or others at Nintendo go especifically at the competitors with bad remarks... He could say he doesn't have anything to comment, he doesn't follow what others do... and in this case he wasn't asked about other companies, he was inquired about his game lackluster graphics.
