There needs to be both. I don't understand why PS now has to be removed. Just make a PS1 and PS2 emulator for PS4, and you're good to go. Don't even worry about PS3.
Should Sony remove PS-Now and replace it with true Backwards Compatabilty? | |||

Not a great thread, worse poll. The Op has missed the point of PS Now by a country mile.
Bet with Adamblaziken:
I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.
I have a 80 GB 4 USB PS3. It's the fully BC playstation 3. I have because I can play 3 generations of playstation. It's redundant to have BC on the PS4 and honestly people weren't all that crazy for it with the PS3. That said, PS Now is a rental service over multiple devices and not a BC feature on a console.

they should just let you stream games you already own as a form of BC, if you have PS plus.... and it can also act as a way to promote PS now..... and it test drives the service with streaming games you already own for free

PS-Now was not Sony's anwer to backwards compability, PS-Now is Sony's answer to the future of media distribution, which is the streaming of content on any multimedia device.
I honestly have no idea of how you came up with the conclusion that PS-Now was solely created to cheat people out of having real BC.The fact that you didn't take any time to understand the service,it's demographic, nor the role it will have in the future already shows that you created this thread with the "console-warz mentality" even though ironically you started the thread with "Fanboy nonsense aside."And yes I know that you are mainly a PC gamer, but I also know that you are more inclined to MS's console than Sony's.
Now this is directed to the mods.
I remember some months ago, the people in charge of the VGC started making small changes to the site, and changing people's inappropriate names in order to make the site look more "professional." The best way to achive this, is by getting rid of these buffoons whose threads have no real substance or purpose whatsoever, other than to spread lies, ignorance, and to show clear bias, I mean seriously what's with those poll options, they're all part of the same opinion, that alone discourages discussion. In the event that this is not possible, at least aim to lock unnecessary threads promptly.
I remember VGC used to be a site in which people could intelligently discuss and share ideas, whether it was something simple, like getting a second opinion in a decision, or even discuss difficult matters like the advantages and disadvantages of Consoles and PCs, most of the time people did so respectfully and coherently. Now it is really hard to find a thread in which that can be done, most of the time is just people blowing things out of proportion, downplaying good things, or the smallest fanbase in the site branding the site of allegiances and playing victim(and they aren't even the smallest fanbase in the site anyways.)
Yeah, removing Now will suddenly make the PS4 able to emulate the Cell processor! Great work everyone.
PS Now can certainly co-exist with backwards campatability via emulation. If I remember correctly the 2nd(or 3rd) wave of PS3's managed to successfully play PS2 titles via software emulation where the 1st generation PS3's did it via the inclusive PS2 hardware into the PS3. It is not a major deal if the PS4 gets it or not although it would certainly be a nice addition.

Pretty much. Even with the PS2, I only went back to try PS1 games on it once just to see the minor graphical update. After that I never even bothered playing PS1 games on my PS2. Still a nice feature that I would not complain about having though hehe.
Yes I think they should at least try instead of saying it is too hard to do and (not sure on this} didn't Mark Cerny say a while back that with GPGPU optimization, it might be possible to emulate the PS3? This was probably before the PS now push though.
Still, they could certainly emulate the PS1 and PS2 since the PS3 had a software based emulator made later on that is used for PSN downloads, but with a CFW enabled PS3, the amount of playable games was something like 80% for PS2 software.Maybe they could port that emulator over to the PS4?
Also it was great that sony included a PS1 and PSP emulator in the Vita, and because of that, I have bought games on PSN that otherwise wouldn't have.
Now i'm actually at a computer and not on mobile, going to address a few things regarding this thread.
1) Poll - The options in the poll are heavily biased towards supporting the OPs view or faking ignorance, this is unacceptable and sets up the thread by baiting from the onset.
2) The claim that Sony is the only one not offering backwards compatibility, this is false, the only console with true backwards compatibility is the WiiU. - You cannot insert a game disk and play straight away on the Xbox One or PS4, the Xbox One requires that the game be one of few compatible titles and that you re-download the entire game, the disk is only used to check for the game ID.
3) The claim that "Sony CAN add in support for PS3 games and theyre simply not doing because they dont want to impact PS-Now subscriptions" this is false for the reasons I posted here.
4) Abandon PS-Now and "do the right thing by it's gamers", PS-Now is a service that is available on multiple systems, even more recently standalone TV's, not limited to the PlayStation 3 or 4, thus has no bearing on whether or not Sony include support for PS3 titles on the PS4.
5) Bringing up the power brick for the Xbox One as a reason why gamers shouldnt use a PS3 to play PS3 games is nonsensical and only further illustrates the OPs intent to muddy the water of discussion and bait users.
Lastly there is the reply containing the following:
"Also this isnt about system sales, this is about doing the right thing for gamers. You should be allowed to play your old games on your new system. Nintendo do it, PC does it, Xbox is doing it and PS is charging you for it."
If you have a large number of PS3 and Xbox 360 games, chances are you still have the consoles on which to play them, theres no logical reason anyone who held on to their PS3 and 360 games would not simply play them on the system they bought them for, having support for these titles on a new system is a bonus, expecting them by default is misguided entitlement.
All of these reasons combined with the general tone of the OP and the level of misinformation and misintepretation, eads me to the conclusion that the threads intentions are toxic, and thus i've chosen to lock the thread.
