Wii U have very compact and power efficient and solid (not strong) hardware. Wii U only consumpes around 30W, basicly like light bulb. Hardware like that have own cost regardless power of hardware. Like I wrote, Wii U would probably would cost $250-300 without gamepad instead $300-350, cost of gamepad is not $100 and you need to count cost of controller instead of gamepad.

What makes Wii U such a bomb isn't price point, it had much bigger reasons than that, like bad name of console, terrible marketing, week launch titles, software drouth..

The marketing issues are a plausible reason but Microsoft figured out the reason why Sony wins gens and thats because they've got the bulk of the third party. Thats is the reason why Microsoft severed Sony's old marketshare last gen. Most gamers are playing third party not first party.

3rd party was a major reason reason 360 did well. But the real secret to 360's success is great software and Sony dropping the ball on price.

PS4 level specs won't win them the market or anything like that, but in terms of games it would be fine by me. Nintendo's games already look great on the Wii U with the exception of Star Fox which is under a very tight dev schedule to make it out for the holidays.

A Nintendo console above 1 TFLOP with 4GB+ of RAM for games would be ... pretty damn good.

Nope, PS360 is getting cut off because declining sales. Not power. Hence, if sales are good they keep making ports.

Wii U never had good sales for core 3rd party games so they got cut off quickly.

OG Xbox sold modestly so sofware support wasnt great after 360 launched.

PS2 did huge numbers and continued getting support well into the life of PS3. However, PS2 is a console we can look at and say it didn't get a lot of ports because it had shit specs. PS360 and Wii U can actually handle most 8th gen games with scaled back visuals. From my memory, not many games designed for PS360 came to PS2.

CoD kept coming to Wii because it did pretty good there. CoD didnt last long on Wii U solely due to abysmal numbers, not power.

Its not just sales. Sales is part of the issue but that is not the reason the 360 and PS4 never got games like Assassins Creed,  Batman Arkham City, The Witcher 3 and so much more. They put their foot down hardware wise, but they are cutting the chord soon enough since the demand for their sequels are driving console sales. It had already been decided a long time ago that games like Batman, Assassins Creed and the Witcher were going to be exclusive to next gen before sales even began to pick up for the consoles.

But you're ignoring a lot of games designed to take advantage of 8th gen hardware have been ported to PS360. Such as Wolfenstein, Alien Isolation, Theif, Titanfall, CoD:AW, Farcry 4, BF4, BF:HL, Destiny, Shadow of Mordor (crappy port job), Watch Dogs, Evil Within, The Crew, Mortal Kombat X, Rise of The Tomb Raider, etc. But a lot of them have sold poorly so developers are moving away from those platforms.

What made cutting the cord easy was poor sales of 7th gen ports. Consumers that are primarily buying core games moved to 8th gen faster than anticipated. So its the more casual stuff that will stay crossplat.

You said, "Third party just cut off the 360/PS3 quicker than they did last gen." But that isn't really true, PS360 had AAA releases longer than PS2. We also saw more significant crossplat games between the 7th and 8th gen than 6th gen had with 7th gen.

Granted not all games would be crossplat, but many titles would be crossplat if 7th gen software sales didn't decline so quickly.

Those Bayonnetta 2 pics are PR bullshots. Thats from the real game (no AA):

Still at least on par with GOW III quality-wise.
Here's some screens from various reviews of the game.

I feel like the next Nintendo console needs to be a portable/home console. Given that I don't think it can be as powerful as PS4. Power isn't their issue, they aren't aiming for an audience that cares about cutting edge visuals.

If they just release another home console with a gimmick, they already failed. Casuals are moving away from home consoles and core gamers don't want a Nintendo console. They need to bridge a gap.

We need access to all their best games without needing two of their platforms.

omfg, dissapear already. amazing how trolls like you remain on this site.

That's much better than GOW 3, unless you use bullshots that even ps4 doesn't match.

No. Nintendo needs more power than that. By the time Nintendo launches the NX the next consoles will have already been planned and they will be behind again. Their inability to work with third parties and their development schedule for the consoles hurt them.

Why does it need more power than that?

People don't buy Nintendo consoles to play the same games on PS4/X1. Low price is more crucial to a Nintendo platform than power. One of the biggest issues with Wii U is its not cheap enough thanks to that tablet controller.

As I said already, they need to bridge the gap between home console and portable platform. It also needs to be cheap, like launch for $199-249. If they can make that happen they will certainly have something more successful than Wii U even if its power is at par with Wii U. Graphics is not the problem with that platform.

"People don't buy Nintendo consoles to play the same games on PS4/X1"

you never get tired of spouting so much stupidity?

Nintendo has always gone the cheap route compared to their competitors. This has always failed them outside of the Wii, which was primarily purchased because of the gimmick coupled with the price. They've always priced their consoles fairly. I would dare say that Microsoft and Sony ask for more, but then again they listen to third party while looking out for their own interests. They find a common ground. If Nintendo wants a larger marketshare with a more serious group of purchasing customers they will need the help of third party much like the NES and SNES era. If Nintendo is going to be the weakest console it only need be one of a slight margin, not a large one as they have tended to be for the last two generations.

"This has always failed them outside of the Wii, which was primarily purchased because of the gimmick coupled with the price."

keep living in denial, hater.

Some people are thinking that the next Nintendo NX console will have the performance of 8 gen consoles, like the PS4.

The thing is, NX will be out most probably in 2017, and it will be the first 9th gen console. Would it be enough for the NX to have PS4 performance when two or Three years after the NX we most probably have PS5 or XBOX TWO on the market and they will be much faster than PS4.

I mean, wouldt be wiser for nintendo to lauch a NX more powerfull than a 2013 console like PS4 if it lauches 3 or 4 years after it?

If the NX is in fact a dockable portable device, it will be weaker because of the limiter power comsumption when the device is undocked, maybe the device will improve graphics somehow when docked, but it cant be that much better.

It better be more powerful. Wii U is only suffering because it is underpowered. It has so many great games but most are not willing to pay for a console with slightly better than last gen graphics.

sony famboy detected.
