They never said it would not go to Revolution. They said it would not be moved off of Gamecube. Gamecube got Twilight Princess, so everything is fine.

Not really fine-  they delayed the game a year for the purpose of using it a s a lanch game for theor next console

Now they are doing the same thing - at least the Gamecube a a pretty deep diverse library of games unlie the game starved Wiii U with NO LOZ game to date-  So the only LOZ game coming to the Wii U (we hope) is being delayed at least a year in order to seel the next console that many of us current wii u owners may not even purchase-   basically delaying the ZeldaU game does nothing for Wii u owners  just for Nintendo

The more i see how sleazy Nintendo is, the more sure i am that i am that i will not get their next console or if i do it will be much later and will be used

Where is the option to vote for it happening right now? I don't understand why anyone would think Nintendo would develop a game for a console (a massive game, like Zelda, that costs a HUGE amount of money to make) that's in its final year (let's be serious people 2016 is Wii U's last year, even if the NX doesn't launch until 2017 but I think it will be 2016) alone? Why would they NOT want to maximize profits and, not to mention, satisfy NX owners who don't want to have to wait ANOTHER 4-5 years before the NX Zelda launches?

Because they risk alienating a bunch of people WHO DD buy the Wii u-  which includes most of Nintenod s dwindling base of loyal customoers-

They are in the process of burning Wii U owners and that is obvious to most of us-  So if many of their most loyal customers decide to wait to purhcase NX or just not buy it at all that is a terrible decsion for Nintendo but then again they have been making alot of terrrible decisons lately

As a (if I recall correctly) day 1 buyer for Wii U and (for sure) for 3ds (you know, back when it was $250 for the standard model...), I would be delighted with the NX coming out next year. I wouldn't feel alienated. We've had some pretty great games on Wii U, it's not like they are pulling a Sega here and abandoning the console before it can make a name for itself, and even if it did I'm fine with that because I'm a true Nintendo gamer and that means I want Nintendo to do whatever it has to in order to survive and keep making its charming games.

I'm above myself; I'm not going to complain about Nintendo launching into the next gen hardware a year sooner than they are "supposed" to (based on modern patterns, not an actual rule). As long as they survive and keep making great games, I'm happy with whatever system it is on.

I ama day 1 Wii U buyer (for my then 7 yr old Son s  b day).  If a Wii U owner loves platformers I can see how they may be moderatly pleased w the Wi U library- but for the rest of us The libray is not very diverse or deep-  It is clear to me Nintendo s effort toward the Wii U was weak from the atart and never ramped up to help itself or its customers

Burning many of thier most loyal customers may or may not help them in the short term business wise butt it is a terrible longer term decsion-  Nintendo has lost tons of market share and qute a lot of money over the last several years and treating their customers poorply is not going to help turn that around

They are going to have a hard time launching the NX obvioulsy they will sacrifice delivery dates and games for the Wii u in order to launch the NX but IMO there will be many people like me that will not buy their next console at or close to launch if it all - Outside of their loyal base (about the number of Wii U consoles sold to date) Nintendo is just not that relevant to the consumer as they once were-   Not getting Minecraft on any of their consoles wis going to haunt them in the future -

Anything is possible, though I'm hoping it will be a Wii U exclusive.. even if it's not, I'll be getting the Wii U version

Whether what they did was right or wrong was not my point. They might have made the most evil decisions.

My point was only that in the interview, they never claimed the game would not come to the Revolution. However, the OP states exactly that in the thread title.

This to me is trolling and/ or implying something which does not exist. That is what I pointed out, that is what I will restate.

Zelda Delayed to Next Year

Nintendo announced this morning that its anticipated new adventure game, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, has been delayed. The title, formerly scheduled to debut this November around the world, has since been postponed to 2006 so that the developer can continue to make the game better.

"After much discussion, the Zelda development team has requested extra time to add new levels, more depth and even higher quality to Zelda: Twilight Princess," said Nintendo of America's vice president of corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplan. "Consequently, we're announcing a new global launch in 2006, after the conclusion of this fiscal year (March 31). We'll provide a specific date at a later point in time. While this may come as a disappointment to many eager fans, it will absolutely enrich the game and make it a multi-million seller."

Twilight Princess, developed by Nintendo and directed by Majora's Mask overseer Eiji Aonuma, was previously set to be the company's big holiday game. In fact, analysts expected the game to be Nintendo's single greatest deterrent to consumers potentially interested in Microsoft's next-generation console, Xbox 360, which is set for a November launch. The delay leaves Nintendo without a major holiday release on GameCube.

In the epic adventure, a 17-year-old Link travels across a gritty, realistic world and is able to move into an alternate dark land called the Twilight Realm, where he transforms into a wolf. Twilight Princess won a number of considerations by critics when it was presented in playable form at the Electronics Entertainment Expo. However, even then, members of the development team hinted in interviews that they would have to work overtime in order to meet a holiday release.

Speaking with IGN, Kaplan elaborated on the delay of the new Zelda. She explained that Nintendo has not yet committed to a new release date for the game, except to say that it would arrive sometime after March 2006. "But it will be worth the wait," she added.

Asked whether Nintendo would launch any previously unannounced GameCube titles this holiday to stand in for Zelda, Kaplan pointed to already-shown software.

"Of course, we don't suggest that any game can replace the unique nature of Zelda. However, GameCube owners have an excellent lineup of new games from which to choose, including Battalion Wars, Mario Super Baseball, Fire Emblem, Super Mario Strikers, Pokemon XD, and a host of great new games from third party publishers," the Nintendo executive stated. "Add to this a plethora of great DS games, the launch of Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and several Wi-Fi games (Mario Kart DS, Animal Crossing DS, etc.), plus the launch of Micro (which will be hot!), and there is a lot for consumers to choose from."

With Twilight Princess being pushed in 2006, some Nintendo fans are wondering if the game might ultimately be killed for GameCube and instead repositioned as a launch title for Revolution, the Big N's next-generation platform. Revolution is set to launch sometime in the second half of 2006, according to sources. According to Kaplan, though, the game is still scheduled to ship for GameCube.

"In effect, because of the backward compatibility built into Revolution, every GameCube game also will be a Revolution title," she said. "But we feel a commitment to the GameCube owners who've been patiently awaiting this new Zelda title, and don't want to force them to wait and buy a brand new system in order to play the game."

Kaplan dismissed the notion that the delay of Zelda would put Nintendo in a tricky situation as GameCube owners decide whether or not to stick with the system or purchase Microsoft's new console this November.

"I think we are talking two different things here," she said. "Those who love Zelda will be thrilled when it arrives, and we believe will still want to purchase it even though the wait might have been a disappointment."

The Nintendo spokesperson also had a message for GameCube owners deflated by this latest delay. "Our message is that we understand what a disappointment this is solely because we know people are eager to play Zelda," she said. "The philosophy of 'quality-first' still lives within Nintendo and it's something we won't compromise on. When Zelda game arrives, we hope to hear that players are thrilled with it and believe the wait was worth it. We think it will be."

Nintendo has released seven new screenshots of the game in motion. Readers are directed to our images section for new shots of Link exploring a populated town and manipulating the snow as the wolf.

I'm sure it won't come to Revolution.

And they were telling the truth. Nowhere in that article did they ever say it wasn't coming to the Wii, or the Revolution as it was known as back then. They said it was still coming to the GameCube and that was the truth. Also, the reasons for delaying it are true as well. If you look at the footage for the game between E3 2005 and it's launch in 2006, they actually did make major changes and large portion of the game were revamped. The decision to bring it to the Wii was more of a moment of opportunity. That system was coming soon. The hardware was practically the same as the GameCube's hardware which made the porting super easy.

Now I'm sure the launch date was ultimately decided to coincide with the Wii. I'm sure had it been a GameCube-only game, it could have been out by August or September of that year. But no, releasing it on the Wii wasn't the sole reason Twilight Princess was delayed.

The sad thing is that the GC already had a Zelda so it was acceptable, but the Wii U don't.
Might be hard to core Zelda Wii U owners, as the OP.

You know what's harder? That we can't do something as long as there are fans that look for excuses rather than accepting the harsh truth.

Upon its conception, I was curious to see the Revolution, Nintendo’s new platform announced at E3 2005, would innovate Zelda’s gameplay. I was eager to try it, but I thought that that could happen only after we completed work on Twilight Princess. I was surprised at first to hear Miyamoto’s suggestion that we try it right away, and I didn’t know how it would impact the Zelda that at that time was still missing a key ingredient. But we had to start by testing what Miyamoto had suggested and that was getting the pointer to work as the control for the bow and arrow. Though the pointer control that we developed as a trial still needed tweaking, and as imperfect as it was, the feeling of being able to aim directly at the target on the screen was, as with the DS version, exactly what was needed to give Zelda a completely new feel. Having experienced it, I was convinced that that was the only direction we could take. “This direct control is exactly what Twilight Princess needs in order to penetrate a market experiencing gamer drift." Miyamoto knew that this would be my response, and he himself felt strongly about it.

However, if we put Twilight Princess on the Revolution, we ran the risk of those looking forward to playing it on the GameCube. For this reason, we knew that we had to release it for the GameCube as well. But doing so meant developing two versions, a GameCube version and Revolution version, and we knew that it was impossible to create both before the 2005 release as promised. Miyamoto negotiated with the higher-ups, and in the end, while it would disappoint those users who were looking forward to the 2005 release, if we really were able to create a 120% Zelda game that could be played both on the GameCube and on the Revolution, then even if we did release at the time of the launch of the Revolution in 2006, we could make even those users happy. This was Iwata’s response and the decision to create Twilight Princess for both the Revolution and the GameCube.
