Forums - Nintendo - The NX is confirmed to be a home console. (not that it needed any confirmation)

And it was AMD who stated last year they were making a new chip for one of the three.

But next year we'll have HBM2 already. Expect to see the Rx 400 and Pascall shipping with upwards of 12-16GB HBM by their 2016-2017 cycle. Not to mention GPUs have always been memory bandwidth starved, and remember how the X360 benefited of that 256 GB/s edRAM link. Of course the difference isn't going to be night and day from GDDR5 to HBM, but hey, it has lower power consumption and takes less space, so I think Nintendo might be interested by it.

I know, but I don't expect the HBM price to drop that quickly. I want it, but.. I don't know. The especification of the console is pretty much finished already; the games are in development.. Let's say Nintendo is using AMD Zen architecture. Officially, Zen uses DDR4 and not HBM (there are rumours of a new Zen with HBM) - I'm no certain of that so don't quote me on that. To cut expenses, I think they are going to use 2015 technology (or early 2016).

One thing is for sure, they are interested in HBM.

Based on what? Watch Nintendo use mobile ARM part with a cheap AMD GPU. Truth is they're not even using the Wii U's power on like 80% of their games, I doubt they're going to magically jump to something 5-7x more powerful than a Wii U. I'd expect something more modest.

But Smash is what you're talking about, because Smash, and now Hyrule Warriors, is what every game will be on the unified platform. You'd have all the Zelda games. They'd just all be available on both platforms instead of half on one and half on the other. And they'd have content exclusive to one or the other, just like those examples.

Wouldn't that limit what they could do with a console Zelda? Like, imagine Zelda U having a 3DS version of the same game. If they wanted to make it so you can have an identicle expierence on both platforms, the Wii U version would need to be downgraded a lot (Similar to how the Ice Climbers were cut from SSB4 altogether because they couldn't get them on the 3DS, even though they were working on the Wii U).

Can't wait for The Zelder Scrolls 3: Breath of The Wild Hunt!

The name NX is really starting to stick to me, I hope that don't change to something dumb like, "Wii 3"

All this states is that they are working on their next home console. Reggie did not say the NX was that home console. So... the NX could still be the 3DS's successor.

Nintendo is not exiting the home console business and going strictly handheld console. I already won the VGChartz!

I'm talking about a home console. Wii U is using a PowerPC processor not an ARM.

"If we started for Wii U now, it would likely take three years or so. So it would likely now be on Nintendo's NX console."

=

Not doing in this console called Wii U but if they start it will end in the next console codenamed NX.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

If Nintendo released a home console next November called the NX, some will still say it's not a home console releasing in 2016.
