But next year we'll have HBM2 already. Expect to see the Rx 400 and Pascall shipping with upwards of 12-16GB HBM by their 2016-2017 cycle. Not to mention GPUs have always been memory bandwidth starved, and remember how the X360 benefited of that 256 GB/s edRAM link. Of course the difference isn't going to be night and day from GDDR5 to HBM, but hey, it has lower power consumption and takes less space, so I think Nintendo might be interested by it.

I know, but I don't expect the HBM price to drop that quickly. I want it, but.. I don't know. The especification of the console is pretty much finished already; the games are in development.. Let's say Nintendo is using AMD Zen architecture. Officially, Zen uses DDR4 and not HBM (there are rumours of a new Zen with HBM) - I'm no certain of that so don't quote me on that. To cut expenses, I think they are going to use 2015 technology (or early 2016).

One thing is for sure, they are interested in HBM.

Based on what? Watch Nintendo use mobile ARM part with a cheap AMD GPU. Truth is they're not even using the Wii U's power on like 80% of their games, I doubt they're going to magically jump to something 5-7x more powerful than a Wii U. I'd expect something more modest.
