Forums - Sony - GOW:COO Bombs + PSP Sales DECREASE----WTF?

damkira said:

I expected GOW:COO to sell better, but honestly -- what non pack-in PSP game has even made the top 10 in recent memory? Maybe Patapon did, but GOW is selling much better than others. Even highly-praised games like Jeanne D'Arc sold pretty poorly.

Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles was in the top 10 the week it came out. I think number 8, to be specific. Oh, and it wasn't ever offically bundled. Too bad it did not sell a little better since that game was one of the most anticipated games on the system before it came out

Update: My bad the game was number 10 when it came out

Well it was anticipated by Castlevania fans , and it did pretty well actually , especially because we still dont have no EU numbers :) Castlevania games are no console pushers anymore ...

God of War passed the total sales of Castlevania in only one week yet people are calling it a flop and you are saying Castlevania sold pretty well which makes no sense at all.

Castlevanias development cost was probably extremly low . And seeing that PSP games are doing better in general in Europe the game sold at least 250k untill now . Even if they only make 5 $/game ( they probably make way over 10 ) even thats 1.25 million $ , and seeing that an overall PSP games development is ~ 500k $ , I wouldent call it a flop , especially because Castlevania games are doing poorly lately .

CoO made 150k in the US alone in just under 3 days , well , I dont know about you , but Im trully impressed . Il repeat : people who call this a flop truly have no idea about PSP software sales ...

Castlevania sells better on the DS.  Portrait of Ruin sold over 300K in the US alone. Most niche games would kill to do that number.  When you mean the series was doing poorly, did you mean in Japan?  The series was never especially popular in Japan

Castlevania can be as popular as God of War if not MGS if the series can finally make a 3D game that is a true must buy.  LoI and CoD were improvements over the N64 installments but they were best to rent than to buy.Igarashi said that he wants to make a truly great 3D castlevania and said it would most likely be on the 360 and the PS3 too if the installbase increases substantially

And that will probably never happen . The closest a Castlevania , at least a great one , can get to 3D is similar to what DXC offered . Unfortunatly untill Castlevania games will stay under the million mark they will never be considered as console sellers , just as decent or good performers ... MGS and GoW are allready proven 3D franchises , and unfortunatly thats what most gamers want this days ( yes , I admit , me to ) ...

PS : when I sayed GoWs I meant God of War and Gears of Wars :P

None of the 3D Castlevanias were great due to rushed production more than to the laws of nature
