Forums - Gaming - Final Fantasy VII is annoying, I hope HD remake is not

I tried FFVII after FFX and was annoyed and frustrated, it has all the faults that classic jRPGs ever had:

- Too frequent random encounters.

- No motivation to do random encounters.

- You have to do backtracking all while guess what.. random annoyments.

- After each annoyment, even when you fled, you have to click through 3 or 4 menu screens.

- If you can't beat a boss you are welcome to do more random frustratments.

- When you die you have to watch a slow game over scene and click through several screens before you are back in game.

I know that it was a game of it's time, but that is my point - I can enjoy FFX whenever, it will never age, while FFVII and FFVI hold no value as games today.

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

If it's anything different to all the things you listed then it's failed instantly. It needs those random encounters you hate to be the game we like.

Can you imagine if it's like FF13?

Also, FF7 is enjoyable to this day. I played 7 before 6, and can't get into the 2D graphics of 6 even if I did play, enjoy and complete it. I would have prefered a FF6 remake.

Hmm, pie.

People will complain if its exactly the same as the original.. people will complain if its slightly different... people will complain if its a lot different..

SE can't win this..

Square Enix won't remove flawed design choices for a remake. They won't even do so for a new game.

Sounds like you should play a different genre.

He said FFX is amazing, with it's tedious maze room missions and, guess what, random encounters and backtracking.  The entire OP is absurd.

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

Is this a joke thread?

FF7 has a much better random encounter rate then FFX though.  You could walk for almost 30 seconds straight sometimes in the World Map or some other areas without getting into a random encounter.  The snow area and the Nibelheim mountains come to mind.  That rarely ever happens, if ever in FFX.

I dare say FF7 is the one JRPG that got random encounters right.  That's not to say there aren't some areas that had a higher encounter rate, but it does it much better than most FF games, especially FFX.

I really hope Square-Enix doesn't listen to you at all. FFVII is perfect gameplay wise, all they need to do is update the look and leave the rest alone.
